Murtha Mocks Cheney: At Least He Didn’t Blame Me For The British Pulling Out «

Today on Meet the Press, Rep. John Murtha (D-PA) laughed off Vice President Cheney’s attack that Murtha’s plan for Iraq would “validate the al Qaeda strategy.” “He didn’t blame me for at least getting the British out,” Murtha said. “I thought he might blame me for that.”

Murtha pointed out that Cheney “just does not listen to what I’m saying.” Cheney ignores the military’s readiness crisis and the fact that “the future threats to this country significantly increased in the last year because we have no ground strategic reserve. … He doesn’t talk about the policy and the results of what I’m saying.” Watch it at link:

Transcript:

RUSSERT: How does it feel to be linked with al Qaeda by a vice president?

MURTHA: It’s unfortunate that the vice president does not have the argument — he just does not listen to what I’m saying. We can’t send troops into combat without equipment. We can’t send troops into combat without training. We can’t extend them past the one-year boots-on-the-ground policy that they have, and we can’t continue to have them over in Iraq more than a year. That’s what he’s not saying, and he’s not saying our strategic reserve and the future threats to this country significantly increased in the last year because we have no ground strategic reserve. That’s what he is not saying. So he attacks my differences but he doesn’t attack the policy. He doesn’t talk about the policy and the results of what I’m saying.

RUSSERT: Did he apologize?

MURTHA: Oh, no. He said that overseas. He didn’t blame me for at least getting the British out. I thought he might blame me for that.

1. Now who would you think might know more about the military?
A decorated combat Marine officer with close ties to the military brass, or a man with 5 deferments who had "better things to do" than go to Viet Nam? The huberis of of Cheney--you'd think he'd be smart enough to realize if you wish to conduct a war, you listen to your generals and conduct it in such a fashion so as not to destroy the army! I'm really concerned. Do you realize if there are two natural disasters in this country back to back our National Guard won't be able to be here to help us? And we have potential for a lot of things happening besides wild weather (though that is predicted for this year too): Mt. St. Helens might do something again, the Yellowstone mega volcano may start doing something; earthquakes not only on the West Coast but also in the heartland--New Madrid is predicted to quake again around 2013, but it could be sooner....

2. Murtha: A decorated war hero

cheney: just another chickenhawk. So who you gonna listen to? This argument has been made several times and is still as valid today as ever. Thanks to Murtha for telling cheney to go to hell in so many words.

3. I liked how Murtha mocked Tim ---Tim missed how Cheney re-directed
his response---and not response to Murtha!
