Edwards should donate "Coulter Cash" to Gay Rights group.
Edited on Sun Mar-04-07 01:13 PM by MethuenProgressive
Edwards should've responded to Couter's hate-speech with a request for his supporters to send donations to a group that directly defends gay rights instead of asking people to donate to him. After all, the remark insulted them, not him.

Elizabeth Edwards: "Although her words did not hurt us, they may have hurt some in the gay community. We are all sick and tired of anyone supporting or applauding or introducing hate words into the national dialogue, tired of people thinking that words that cause others pain are fair game. And we are sick and tired of people like Miss Coulter thinking that her use of loaded words about the homosexual community in this country is remotely humorous or appropriate."

2. I hadn't thought of that idea,
but I agree with you 100%. When I first saw that he was using the remark to help generate money for his campaign effort, I thought it was a bit, well umm - tacky. Your idea is great.

5. Wouldn't it be real justice? To see her remark used against her?
I hope someone with Edwards ear thinks as sideways as i do! :D

8. Coulter hates Edwards. She doesn't hate gays. She's trying to stop him from
being president. If Edwards can use this to become president, he's undermining her intent.

19. She doesn't hate gays?
Sure, because "faggot" (ick, I feel nasty just typing that) is a word non-homophobes use all the time. :eyes:

And a lot less tacky than what he actually did.

10. A Presidential Candidate giving buckets of cash to groups
from which he'd like to gain votes?!?!?!?!? What, are you nuts?

Edwards thwarting the right by adding reason to the debate and maybe even winning the presidency is payment enough for anyone.

13. Be nice - but I'd rather he keep it for the campaign
Sorry, but it takes bushels of money to run a Presidential campaign. I can't fault him for using this to help him raise cash, especially since the media is ignoring his campaign in favor of Clinton and Obama.

14. People who dislike what Coulter said about Edwards
Should give their money to a gay rights group. People interested in electing John Edwards for president should donate money to his campaign.

15. I marvel at the cluelessness
Sorry keyboard commandoes but in American politics money talks and shit walks. Edwards (or any candidate for that matter) cannot spare any effort to fundraise for other causes right now.

I've managed state level campaigns and believe me, they need to get every penny they can. That's how it is out here in the dirty, stinky real world.

16. Edwards didn't handle this too great
He should have ripped Coulter a new one and then ask for the money to be donated to a gay rights group. Using the hateful remark to raise "Coulter Cash" for yourself is a bit weak.

18. Not weak IMHO
I expect everyone at DU knows that it takes a ton of cash to run a campaign. No one stopped anyone from donating to the G/L charity of your choice to counter Coultergeist.

Campaigns have to jump on any chance to raise cash.
