Poll question: Whose Speech Did You Like Better, Obama's Or Clinton's?

I watched both, and both were excellent, but I give the edge to . . .

He speaks, you listen. He used reality better than she did today. JMO. I really like Hillary, but she gets strident when she speaks.....kind of a turn off.

She seems to have insufficient variation in her tone.

She also lacked a theme for her speech. While I wasn't personally thrilled by the religious tones of Obama's "Joshua Generation" theme, it still worked.

Hillary seems to be doing what Bill did - creating a "program" by pulling together a collection of issues important to voters. Survey the voters and then give them what they want, even if this don't produce coherent program and we can't tell if she HAS any principles that will guide her efforts in office. Obama, in contrast, is speaking from a principled position.

There's something always self-conscious and staged about her speeches. Sincere, but lacking in charisma.

I don't think there's anything she said that I could take issue with. But she didn't move me. Obama was impressive.

Her monotone reminds me of Kerry's first few speeches. Combined with overscripted speeches, she comes across as less than sincere.

well but suspect Obama scored more points. There is something about Hillary's voice that I find irritating but don't know what it is. Obama was a little low key today but I think this is the way he wanted it. I like it when he talks about personal responsibility. I have never seen another candidate do this so well.

sense Mario Cuomo. the more Obama gives speeches like this the better he gets. right now Hillary is beating him among woman in the party if he starts to talk about female issues watch out.

Realizing it's so very DU to denigrate one candidate at the expense of another, what occurred to me was the positive energy our candidates bring as opposed to the opposition, i.e., the GOP.

Instead of posting how both speeches were great, we need to have a poll which pits one popular candidate vs another very unpopular (only on DU, that is) candidate. Any which way that Hillary can be one-upped is welcomed with open arms, eh.

....but I'll go with Barack Obama! He has that MLK cadence to his speech, and it was a great conversational/sermon/political speech.

Hillary's was good too, but I imagine that it was written by someone else and the delivery was a bit too hard edge for me. She reminded me of someone trying for a fire and brimstone preacher ending to her sermon.......with applause lines built in.

In terms of substance, for the occasion, I found both speeches very well done and appropriate.

Clinton maybe included more.....like referring the victims of the recent tornadoes. I though however she'd call for a moment of silence....but didn't.

In his speech, Obama said he was of the Joshua Generation to the older Moses Generation that did the actual marching and parting of the sea. That was a very well done biblical analogy discussed in an appropriate setting. In addition Obama answered his critics as to why he can represent African-Americans just fine.

Obama is an orator.
Hillary is a politician.

The difference was noted.

counted 75 (versus Hillary at 14)...

I DO like him...but something about the ego thing bothers me <shrug>

and so unlike Hillary, he has to tell us something about himself everytime he has a chance.

His mission today was to link himself to the African American Community....by explaining where he's came from, and what makes him the same, and not different from Black Folks....something that has been a running commentary via the media.
