I heard the crowd for Obama's speech was bigger than the one for Senator Clinton's
in Selma today. Can anyone verify this? If true, how much bigger was it.

I'm curious to know.

26. Yes, he is a wonderful speaker!
What a contrast to the inarticulate boob we have in office now!

I don't dislike HRC at all ... however, I don't think is as dynamic a speak as Obama or her husband .... but, I really think she did a good job speaking this day.

4. My speech crowd is bigger than yours!
Heh, well no in all seriousness, it's impressive for Obama to out-draw Senator Clinton's speech. I mean, I read beforehand she was bringing the heavy artillery - Bill Clinton - beforehand. Unless I am mistaken about that, that's definitely impressive.

Could be sign of how things will be trending. I believe this was the first time they were both campaigning at the same time and place.

6. Well, I haven't heard either way
but I'm guessing that if we're talking about the speeches in the churches, it probably depends on how many people can fit into each church (I'm assuming that both would have been filled).

12. They said Senator Obama had an overflow crowd..

And they apologized that so many had to listen outside the church. So I'm not sure if they're talking church capacity.

I'll settle for "they both packed the house" though.. :)

7. I heard that Clinton's crowd was almost totally black
And that Obama's crowd was much more integrated. I thought that was very interesting.

Two great speeches by the front runners. Obama and Hillary both brought it home.

10. Actually the people in Obama's crowd were just fatter
which gave it the appearance of being a larger crowd because it had to spread out more. Hillary's people were trim, giving the illusion of a smaller crowd because they could scrunch up more together.

That's what I heard.

23. Obama's Crowd
Edited on Mon Mar-05-07 04:53 AM by Ethelk2044
Obama's group had several groups wanting to hear his speech. A student group came down from one of the colleges to hear the speech as well as other groups. However, they all were not able to attend. Some had to stand outside of the Church.

15. Well, at one point some people went to one of Hillary's speeches
but had to leave because there was no sound system, so they went to go listen to Obama instead.

http://www.montgomeryadvertiser.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070304/NEWS/70304017

It's really not that much of a competition at this point . . . I think a lot of people haven't made up their minds yet and want to check out both candidates.

21. Wow.. that is some poor planning on someone's part..

If it happens every year.. sheez guys, get the sound system fixed!

SELMA — Most of the hundreds of people gathered outside of First Baptist Church to hear Sen. Hillary Clinton speak left before she had even begun.

The large gathering of people standing outside the church to hear Clinton, slowly dissipated — many joining the crowd outside Brown Chapel AME Church to hear Barack Obama — as they realized there were no speakers set up so that they would be able to hear the speech she gave inside.

“I just hate that they don’t have (a sound system) set up,” said Dorethia Albert, who had been in front of First Baptist to hear Clinton, but now stood listening to Obama’s speech.

“They should know to do that by now,” said the Atlanta native. “They have this every year.”

28. Considering Bill Clinton was in attendance, as well
the higher turnout for Obama is a very good sign for him.

In fairness, though, the church Obama spoke at appeared to be better attended by leaders who were at the core of the civil rights movement. That might be at least part of the reason for the higher attendance at that church.
