The Simpsons was awesome!
Made fun of the non-connection between Iraq and 9/11, no child left behind, Fox news and its propaganda--AWESOME!

1. It's a nice balance to South Park's republican tilt.

6. South Park makes fun of everybody ...
.... that is what makes it South Park.

The huge drill that bored it's way through the hippy music fest to
"stop the crap ass music" was great.

13. It's a Libertarian tilt, to be fair.
It comes of as Republican sometimes, but honestly conservative would be a better term. They make fun of pugs too.

I'm a sucker for childish humor

But everytime I've seen it, it's usually mocking religion and other stuff like that. So I'd say they are pretty balanced in mocking everyone. Which makes it funny!!

I really enjoyed American Dad (is that still on?) with the Republican dad and liberal daughter.

21. Wikipedia is the last refuge of those who can't find anything good.
But since you linked to it I went and read it;

South Park Republican is a term that was circulated in a few articles and weblogs on the Internet circa 2001 and 2002, to describe what was claimed by the authors as a "new wave" of young adults and teenagers who hold political beliefs that are, in general, aligned with those that seem to underpin gags and storylines in the popular television cartoon. The phrase was coined in 2001 by commentator Andrew Sullivan, who identified himself as a South Park Republican after hearing that the show's creators had "outed" themselves as Republicans at an awards ceremony.

The term is meant to be more of a casual indication of beliefs than a strong partisan label. While South Park co-creator Matt Stone is a registered Republican, co-creator Trey Parker is actually a registered member of the Libertarian Party. Also, Parker and Stone declared All in the Family producer Norman Lear, who helped write a few episodes of South Park and founded the liberal pressure group People for the American Way, as one of their heroes. As the show's co-creator, Matt Stone, sums it up: "I hate conservatives, but I really fucking hate liberals." <2> Such sentiments were reflected in their movie Team America: World Police.

They sound evil to me!

24. Wait,don't run away just yet..I have more.
Stone and Parker were never thrilled to be G.O.P. poster boys and said they weren't sure what a South Park Republican was. They were generally reluctant to be pigeonholed ideologically, but last week they clarified it by headlining at a Reason magazine conference in Amsterdam, the libertarian version of Davos. Stone and Parker said that if you had to put a label on them, they were libertarian—and that didn't mean Republican to this crowd.

25. How does that aid your argument? Clearly, the show has been seen as having a pro-GOP tilt.
What is the old saying about 'libertarians'? They're basically republicans who're afraid to admit it.

27. Clearly, most people here can't see it.
Trey and Matt's own words sit pretty well with my interpretation of the show.

"What is the old saying about 'libertarians'? They're basically republicans who're afraid to admit it."

Wow. Scientific. I guess that's why it's an "old saying" and not "accepted scientific fact".

Yes,they are relentless on Dems...but they are equally ferocious towards Republicans, and that's the point.I've seen so many people who love the show when they rag on the right, then turn around and say they hate it because they made fun of Rosie O'Donnell or something (in the hilarious "Trapper Keeper" episode).

The day we lose the ability to laugh at ourselves is the day we've become Republicans. And I think it's safe to say that neither of us want to go there :)

Peace.

don't even realize what it means. They hear them talking about "personal freedom" and jump on the bandwagon, without realizing how dumb some of their economic ideas are, or how generally indecisive their philosophy is.

37. South Park sucks
Not only is it mostly a right-wing tilt(although the Jesus stuff is sure to offend both sides)---but what little I've been able to stomach watching it, hasn't resulted in many laughs. I will agree the Simpsons have a left wing bias and coincidently---know how to be funny.

It's kinda like The Daily Show verses the Fox 1/2 hour News Hour. Rightwingers just ain't funny.

As for South Park--I'm astonished it has a fan base at all. How many times can killing Kenny or a singing talking piece of poop be funny?

Give me the old Looney Toons anytime---now THAT was funny stuff.

38. You have an incredibly misguided view of South Park...
Kenny dying is what's called a "running joke". Which stopped when Kenny actually died, which was 4 or 5 seasons ago.

There have been 4 or 5 (from memory) episodes concerning Mr Hanky.

It's kinda like, you don't know what you're talking about. Comparing South Park to the 1/2 Hour News Hour is like comparing Beethoven to Britney Spears. Different league baby.

28. And the poke at sensationalist news was good, too
The plane crashes in a field, slides to a stop, and everybody's okay. The local media report this fact, then, "through the miracle of computer imaging", procede to re-create the same plane crash with a) the plane hitting a school full of children, with burning kids fleeing the building, b) the plane hitting a school full of bunnies, with burning bunnies fleeting the building, and c) the plane hitting a school full of bunnies, with burning bunnies and a sole surviver fleeing the building, followed by the survivor going home and beating his wife.

Sounds like Faux News' next trick...
