3. Did she give the whole speech like that or was this an intentional and announced...
attempt to sound Southern? I'm curious as to what the min. or two of the speech before this part sounds like.

4. Sounded the same - she spent how many years in Ark? - seems more like
speaking Spanish in front of a Hispanic crowd then anything else.

But I guess there is now a "one sound/all locations" requirement lest you be called "not genuine".

48. Hillary had a handful of slipping into Ark rhythms, and one planned phrase - and that was
enough to get folks to call her panderer?

At least she spent much of her life in the south talking in southern rhythms. Obama seems to have done a few y'alls (the u tube one is not the only time he's y'all'ed) and somehow that is not pandering.

In my opinion this is one of the more stupid attempts to slime an opponent on DU - and in the media.

19. Or maybe because people are just more suspicious of Hillary's intentions
in general? She's accused of pandering in every move that she makes, even when other candidates do the same thing. There's a definite double standard just because of who she is. Obama's the new kid on the block, so he's often given the benefit of the doubt. But it's understandable, and they both have their strengths and weaknesses.

25. Could you imagine if Kerry had done such a prank...
Edited on Mon Mar-05-07 08:09 PM by zulchzulu
I think, again, it's Senator Clinton's own words and actions that are the issue here... the audio was not tampered with...it was her. Why on Earth would she resort to that obvious political pratfall?

If Kerry had done such a ridiculous bit of pandering, I would have called his office non-stop until I talked to him personally. And I would have told him to shut his piehole if he thinks about do something like that again... if Obama did the same sort of thing, I would lose a lot of respect for him as well.

The junior Senator from New York is providing her own material for those that think she is unelectable. It's that simple. It has nothing to do with Freeper this or Hillary Hater that... it wasn't even a good Southern accent. I've lived in the South and can tell a Yankee phony from the real thing...

I respect you greatly, but surely you must see this...

28. The big difference between Kerry's photos and Senator Clinton's southern "accent"
Kerry ACTUALLY wind surfs, hunts, plays guitar, plays football with friends (and maybe has a photo taken in a moment that shows some humanity) and can salute because he was a soldier. There is nothing phony in ANY of those photos...well, the one of him coming out of that tube was unfortunate. :->

If Kerry dressed up like a knight, I'd be a bit perplexed. As far as I know, he's not a knight...

Hillary ACTUALLY talks.

Give it a rest. Just as people who support Kucinich get sick and tired of people slamming him for being allegedly unelectable based on purely subjective reasoning, Hillary supporters object to the same.

Yet both are running for president and both deserve some goddamn respect on these boards.

At the very least stop pretending the gratuitous bashing is anywhere in the neighborhood of constructive criticism.

It's called politics. Some are excused, others eviscerated. And so it goes. And we expect ZERO insight into that from you and the rest of your gang, as always, although I notice you have perched here ready with your same old, same old nonsensical retorts to any real or imagined slights of Kerry.

The fact that you and other Kerryites plot in your forum about annihilating Hillary 24/7 isn't a big secret around here. Notice that Kerry was windsurfing, was playing guitar, was hunting...you know why? Because he actually DID those things. He wasn't propped on a surfboard, handed a guitar and acted like he played or was handed a gun and acted like he hunted...

He really does those things in real life. Some may have thought that what he actually does was "pandering", but they were usually Bush supporters.

Senator Clinton, on the other hand, can't do an authentic Southern accent to save her...ah..whatever...

Tag. You're it.

40. Yeah, let's see...
Kerry was on the cover of American Windsurfer in 1998. But, if he actually goes windsurfing during a campaign to relieve stress, it's pandering! Of course! Don't you see the simple logic here?

Hmmm...Kerry was in a band in high school called the Electras, and they even put out an album...but if he picks up a guitar and plays it - YES - pandering!! (oh, he was pandering again recently, at his stepson's wedding reception, where according to the gossip columnist he - gasp - played Ring of Fire! Pandering, I tell you!)

Never mind that he's been a hunter all his life... still pandering!

Don't you GET it? It's Kerry, so it doesn't matter how long he's actually done these things, it MUST be pandering!

:sarcasm:

Watch the clip:

http://blip.tv/file/get/Tpmmedia-HillaryIDontFeelNowaysTiredBiggerExcerpt835.wmv

The soundbites (while a tad awkward) were taken out of context and cheery-picked, Gee, where have I seen that before...

I agree with Greg Sargent's assessment:
"Look, Hillary's real sins here were being corny as hell and painfully tone deaf. But phony this wasn't."

On that note, Senator Clinton needs to be a little more careful...

43. Isn't breitbart known as a right wing nutjob?
Just checking... seems TPM got the goods on this story.

50. Agreed...TPM nailed it
I don't know, however, if the newly spawned "gaffe" can be stopped in the MSM. The edited video is now in heavy rotation.

Note to Senator Clinton: when going into character to read a quote in a Southern accent, preface the quote with "he might have sounded like this..." or something.

55. I'm on dial up at home so i can't comment on the Hillary clip
Edited on Mon Mar-05-07 09:44 PM by Melissa G
but while I am from Texas folks often say I normally sound like I'm from New York, mostly because I talk fast..
Anyway, I was giving a speech once at a pretty large rally and walking on I had no sense of the way the microphone was pitched. When I heard what came out, it was either go southern or sound really silly. Since it was a viable, somewhat authentic option for me, you can guess what i chose.

just saying..a weirdly pitched mic can move you to unexpected choices to keep up your momentum.

57. Why are you promoting THE DRUDGE REPORT here on DU???
That's where this trumped-up, twisted story came from.

Hillary's quoting a southern hymn - and she affected the southern accent to express the words as they would have been originally stated. The only thing she's guilty of is a bad accent.

This same thing happened last election cycle.
There's a lot of money available to compensate online keyboard warriors to befuddle the gullible Dems who post online at places like DU.
I take notes.

59. SO, when are we going to talk about issues and not about what the RW media want us to care about.
Every single politician will have a moment of pandering (assuming this is what it is about, which is not even sure). This is part of the job.

But is it important to spend our on how Hillary speaks, Coulter's insulting Edwards, or Obama's slave-owners ancestors.

Or can we speak about what is going to affect our life in the next 6 years at least: where candidates stand on issues.

But I really, really hope people here remember that the next time the Right hangs the red-meat known as Nader under their noses so we can lap it up like dogs while the Repubs fuck the country even harder.

75. Tone deaf as all get out. However--
--it really fries me that Bush gets a free pass from the MSM for far worse offenses in that line. He even had a totally phony "ranch" built for the purpose.
