Mitt Romney, the Mormon. Did you know that
Romney's grandfather had five wives? At least one of his great-grandfathers had 12 wives.

Let the jokes begin. Romney is going to provide a lot of jokes for this campaign.

6. I've got me some of those "garments"
Straight from a shop in Salt Lake City. Friend pretended to be Mormon and pretended she needed to buy them for her and her husband and forgot her ID card. Some Saturday I'm going to spend the whole day on the couch in them and wait for the Mormon kids to come a-knockin' so I can open the door wearing them while holding a beer and a Playboy.

I'll tell them when they get to a certain level in the church, they're allowed - nay expected - to drink alcohol and look at porn.

15. Wow, you don't even have a clue, do you?
It's cool, because you think someone else's religious beliefs are "ridiculous." :eyes:

Some would argue it's pretty magical that bread and wine are transformed into the body and blood of Christ on Sundays for a lot of DU Catholics.

Do you wish to comment on the Catholics too, or only about the ridiculous Mormons?

Let's hear the rationale behind temple garments.

18. You know how to research the internets. I don't work for you.
I'm really not interested in rationalizing religious beliefs with you anyway, because that's what they are. Beliefs.

I have my own feelings about religion.

But as a liberal progressive, I say whatever you believe in is fine as long as it doesn't hurt or oppress people.

I don't believe temple garments are harming anyone.

I have some good, cool, liberal friends who are from Mormon families, and I think your sarcasm is offensive.

21. magic undies
I think the magic underwear was from the old days when they didn't have laundry machines. I'm curious if the magic underwear are comfortable, is it 100 % cotton. I'm not sure if i could ever wear it cuz i only like old navy boxers, just the right material, i don't like thin cotton or silk boxers. Boxer briefs and reg briefs are okay.

Maybe the magic underwear is a sign of chastity/fidelity, cuz back then most people went commando.

22. They're pretty comfortable
They have some Masonic symbols embroidered into them at varioius places. They're tight in the right places, and one the male garments, there's even a bulge in the front for one's manhood.

3. I don't care.
Let's focus on what makes him a bad candidate, and what would make him a poor choice for President.

5. I had a Mormon g-g-g-grandfather with TEN wives.
And I'm a dedicated liberal.

There are plenty of reasons to mistrust Mitt. The historical fact of Mormon polygamy is not one of them.

17. Get real. This would be great political theatre, and the people would hold it against Romney
because they are skeptical of Mormonism. It doesn't matter what you had. You are not Romney. You are not running for President.

The people of this country don't always make their decisions based on "policy issues." They decide based on stuff like this. I can't wait until people start talking about the "White Horse Prophecy."

23. I'd love to take Romney to task over his Mormon belief system,
believe me. I think it's one of the weirdest religions on the planet - the 19th century version of Scientology.

BUT I don't think it is appropriate to fault Romney publically for his ancestor's polygamy for the simple reason that I don't believe in collective punishment. Polygamy has not been official LDS doctrine for over 100 years. Attacking it now is silly.

Attack the LDS church for its theocratic rule over Utah? YES
Attack the LDS church for its very recent racist doctrines? YES
Attack the LDS church for its love of money and failure to look after the basic needs of its poorest members? YES
Attack the LDS church for its longstanding tradition of patriarchy and misogyny? YES, YES, a thousand times YES
But don't attack a member for doctrine that ended before his parents were born. There is plenty this church does wrong right NOW.

9. Some of the coolest, most liberal people I know happen to
be from Mormon families.

I'm sure we'll find plenty of faults with the guy (like his lying and hypocrisy) as opposed to attacking his religion.
