Without a care
There's an old joke, in which a man inherits a fortune from his father, a generous donor to his local house of worship.

A cleric visits him and asks if he'll continue the tradition of his father's substantial annual bequest.

The man relates three increasingly heart-rending stories about his wife and kids, each of whom has a vital and expensive need, such as life-saving surgery.

He adds: "And if I could say no to them, I can say no to you."

Today nine American soldiers were killed in the Iraq misadventure, with the total now at 3,185.

If we don't care enough to do anything about this, we surely don't care very much about the orders-of-magnitude more Iraqis we condemned to die in a burgeoning civil war.

As of this moment msnbc.com's breaking-news headline is "Iraq police now say at least 90 killed in attacks on Shiite pilgrims."

We care so much about this, that we're secretly conspiring to tilt the balance of power in Iraq back to the Sunnis.

So let me ask you, "Do you wish Saddam Hussein were back in power?" I wonder if you woke Bush up in the middle of the night what he would answer. Fool yourself once...

Hey, the liberal light is always on at the Vast Left-Wing Conspiracy. Please stop by and say "hi!"
