Should the House initiate impeachment proceedings for..........Cheney?
I think it would be less damaging poltiically for Dems to go after Cheney instead of Bush.

The focal point of the outing of Ms. Plame for purely political purposes was in Cheney's office. Cheney was orchestrating the attack and handing out assignments.

It's hard to argue with that. That was testimony and evidence that convicted his chief of staff.

Also, Congress should look at Mr. Bush in this regard. It was Mr. Bush who, in order to give legal cover to the conspiracy in the OVP, secretly declassified secret documents. He, too, was an integral part of the conspiracy.

Impeach. Indict. Imprison.

7. Indeed, My Friend
No one can possibly argue now grounds do not exist: the conviction of Libby more than establishes that.

My sense, speaking purely as a strategist, is that Cheney makes the best initial target, being even less popular that his widely despised superior.

2. Yes. 90% of the country despises Cheney.
Plus, he's the real president anyway. He needs to be the first one impeached.

11. Hey,if it floats anybody boat..
We could have a mock Impeachment Trial right here.

Any volunteers for playing the characters of Henry Hyde and Ken Star?

Almost forgot, we need a roster of volunteers as SCOTUS Judges.

10. They are partners in their war on the Constitution. . .
Edited on Tue Mar-06-07 10:47 PM by pat_k
The House can't morally or rationally impeach one without the other, but that never stopped them.

First, the assumption that impeaching Bush will be politically damaging has no basis in reality. In fact, the opposite is true.

As with all crises, there is opportunity in the battle to end the bushcheney war on the constitution. Impeachment is an unprecedented opportunity for Democrats to demonstrate strength and conviction, and to define themselves as the Party of the People's Government and the Constitution. That is, in one fell swoop, impeachment deals with the Number 1 and Number 2 problems that have been plaguing the Democratic Party for decades -- i.e., 1) the perception that they are weak, and 2) their inability to define over-arching principles that inspire.

Second, failing to impeach Bush and Cheney is not just a betrayal of their oath to "support and defend," it is likely to be politically devastating. It is never good politics to be complicit in crime, but that is precisely what they have become with their "off the table" edict. Does Pelosi really want to be the person who held the only power capable of stopping Bush and Cheney in her hands, but who refused to use it? Who not only refused to use it, but who suppressed anyone who dared utter the word impeachment?

They think their failure to oppose the Authorization to Use Military Force is a problem? Just wait til they are blamed for sitting on their hands while Bush started WWIII. For knowingly allowing Bush and Cheney to commit war crimes in our name and doing nothing to stop it.

All that aside. Impeaching Cheney alone is a mistake, but if that's all we can get them to do, so be it. At least they will get the impeachment snowball rolling. A Cheney impeachment will put the impeachment of Bush "on the table" in the public mind whether they acknowledge it or not.

15. Cheney is clearly the ring leader, Cheney wanted this war with
Iraq, along with his cronies. We have to push our Reps to start the ball rolling, no one is above the law, no one.
