Andrew Sullivan: Something is rotten in the heart of Washington
Something is rotten in the heart of Washington; and it lies in the vice-president's office. The salience of this case is obvious. What it is really about - what it has always been about - is whether this administration deliberately misled the American people about WMD intelligence before the war. The risks Cheney took to attack Wilson, the insane over-reaction that otherwise very smart men in this administration engaged in to rebut a relatively trivial issue: all this strongly implies the fact they were terrified that the full details of their pre-war WMD knowledge would come out. Fitzgerald could smell this. He was right to pursue it, and to prove that a brilliant, intelligent, sane man like Libby would risk jail to protect his bosses. What was he really trying to hide? We now need a Congressional investigation to find out more, to subpoena Cheney and, if he won't cooperate, consider impeaching him.

1. Andrew is a liberal "gay conservative Catholic" -- interesting to watch his progression on his blog.

7. He didn't use to be a liberal gay, did he? Not that I remember...
I thought he was another blind right winger, espousing BS on behalf of the criminal White House!

8. andy sullivan was spouting venom
against Al Gore in 2000 but bush-cheney-gang has made him see the fucking light.

I don't think he's "liberal", though. Could be wrong.

9. Sullivan is an opportunist.
He knows the tide has turned and that there will be more Democrats throwing "A" List cocktail parties. If you make a living commenting about the latest dish in Washington, you have to get invited to the correct party.

12. Sometimes I think that's about all you find in D.C.
with a few notable exceptions.

14. BINGO!
He is an opportunist and should always be reminded of his trashing of Gore along with his complete backing of BushCO for years.

2. What was he trying to hide, indeed.
At whose price was our national security breached?

3. What was he trying to hide?
The war-profiteering coward was trying to hide his planning of the Iraq War (Secret Energy Task Force meetings) and his probable interest in taking down down the Brewster-Jenning's CIA network tasked with following the movement of WMD in the ME. Scooter will get a pardon...I have no doubts that the deal was 'take one for the team, appeal, and we'll pardon you on the way out'. I wish I could be excited that Fitzgerald's prosecution accomplished something, but I think it was a theatrical performance designed to minimize the real damage that the Plame case could have wrought on this administration. So Cheney's probably not too broken up about this...could have been a hellavu lot worse for him.

4. "could have been a hellavu lot worse for him." Yes, the people could have demanded he be strung up.

5. Thanks Mr. Sullivan
Now, tell us something we don't know, that we haven't been screaming in the monkey faces of the dull-witted kewl kidz of the major media for the last six years. We're all agog at your sudden discovery that Dick Cheney is a mean, bitter, vindictive political apparatchik who will use all means at his disposal, legal and illegal, to further his own agenda.

6. Better late than never
But Sully was as caught up in the pre-war hysteria, and the blindness to the fallacies that led up to it, as was Cheney himself.

11. Something is rotten in the heart of Washington? Ya think?
If this is the first time you noticed that Sully, you've been hittin' the bottle a little too heavily.
