Chris Matthews appreciation thread.

Matthews closed his show tonight with his own "special comment", speaking directly to the camera, using concrete language to say Libby lied, this is about the lies that took us to war, and this won't all be over until questions about the war are answered.

Though he has often irritated me with his tendency to interrupt guests and concentrate on horse-race politics, he deserves major props for his behavior throughout the Plame scandal and the reporting of it.

Chris, tonight I raise a glass to you. :toast:

He's done a heck of a good job. He was the first person that Wilson talks about in his book, because of his call warning Wilson about Eove's call. His reporting made the OVP furious. He deserves our respect for his contributions on the Plame scandal and Libby case.

clear that Bush will attack Iran if he can. He also was part of the process in that Cheney had transcripts of his show made and ranted why Matthews would keep on the story. Good job, Chris.

I didn't know that. I sometimes think he doesn't think it's his job to make the case for the political parties, and consequently doesn't always report facts as he really knows them. Maybe if he were a anchor type reporter, he'd have done a better job these last few years. Then again, I do not know where his little man crushes come from either, like the one he appears to have with Giuliani. After getting burned by Bush, you'd think he'd have learned his lesson about going after 'macho men'.

he confuses me so, but at heart he must be a decent guy - anyone who had the guts to call Joe Wilson and tell him he'd been told his wife was fair game and "you can quote me on that", has guts I think. He knew he was messing with powerful people.

he had no idea how it would turn out, so I give him some credit for that. It would have been much easier and safer for him to not say anything at all. I give credit where it's due, and I think that took guts.

I have a LONG memory. I remember Matthews and his Bush-kissing ways. Mission Accomplished, "real people like real guys as President".. his kiss-ups and sycophancies are legion in number.

The ONLY atonement Matthews can make is a public, on-air apology and resignation.

Matthews falsely attacked Wilson over Niger trip's genesis.

Matthews mischaracterized Democratic efforts to complete the Senate Intelligence Committee's Phase II report as "disingenuous," "using crocodile tears."

He normally checks out both sides, is chummy with both sides, and tries to see who's ahead and who's playing catch up.

But tonight he looked right at the camera to say, Now we know that what was charged was true, and that everything left unsaid is worth saying.

The fact that he pissed off the OVP in the first place probably means that I'm the one playing catch up here, at least in this respect.

So Chris finally did his job for the big bucks he gets.....bout time!

Last I heard, one had to give 120% before being recognized as doing better than what should be expected.

Chris Matthews is more like 35% OK. But that ain't good enough. Better than Russert's 10% OK....but considering how low we've had to make our standards, I ain't joining no hoorah parade in somebody performing at the minimum requirement level!

Talk to me about Dana Priest and Seymour Hersh, and then I'll be willing to get into the receiving line to congratulate some courage and greatness.
