It cements the Bush legacy as a bunch of self-serving liars.

I HOPE that Bush pardons Libby. It will be remembered like Nixon's Saturday Night Massacre.

1. If he did it before the election, it would.
But he won't. His advisors know what happened to Ford in 1976 after he pardoned Slippery Dick.

2. It doesnt matter.
Even if its on Christmas Eve, 2008, it helps us historically.

3. You what else "cements the Bush legacy as a bunch of self-serving liars"?
This: Libby spending 25 years in jail and an investigation of Cheney and Bush beginning immediately.

5. One thing the criminal trial did was greatly help the civil trial.
I suppose the Supreme Court could turn and say, just kidding about that Paula Jones ruling, we were wrong, there should be civil suit immunity. Yeah, maybe, just maybe, but that in itself would be a scandal. However that all turns out, Democrats need to worry about electing a Democratic president in 2008, no matter what Bush does or doesn't do with a pardon. If he wants perverting justice to be on his resume for historical regard, that's his problem. Libby was always a self-appointed fall guy. He's not the main course.

6. The tension and the profile of the Plame civil case
will make the Libby pardon like a stake through the heart of the Republican party coalition.

I worry about a long hot summer and the sequelae of the surge. I see Dubya's numbers hit 19% by the blackouts of July. This is a La Nina year. Expect exciting times in the gulf.

It is hard to hang with treason, no matter how dittoed up you are. This is going to be unspinnable. Rove and Cheney cannot last the spring. The new Veep will be chosen with an eye to resignation. I suspect they will try for Ashcroft, and have to settle for Sununu.

I see a de-neoconification movement starting with the religious right. I see the paleocons really taking it to Brownback's snake handler vote. I think that the run up to 08 is going to be a rough row to hoe for the Pachyderm party. A lot of their money will fund a circular firing squad cum jihad.

7. If by "us" you mean Americans, then I disagree
This is exactly what got us where we are now -- the concept of certain people being above the law because they're buddies with the Prez.

This is why the pubs are so egregiously lawless.

No, it just perpetuates the problem.

8. If that were true, we wouldn't be in this mess now.
Poppy pardoned the Iran-Contra criminals, which enabled many of the crimes committed in the last six years.
