MARTINEZ: CHAVEZ TAKING VENEZUELA DOWN WRONG PATH
February 8, 2007 - Washington, DC - U.S. Senator Mel Martinez (R-FL) released the following statement expressing concern over recent events in Venezuela:
“I am concerned with the actions we’ve seen in recent weeks in Venezuela. The country is being taken down a path that history has shown us has no future. Simply stated, a government run by decree is a dictatorship.
“The expulsion of foreign companies is pushing away investors. Venezuela’s oil wealth should be used for investments as a benefit for the people and to encourage the creation of sound economic policies that will incite investment and growth.
“Governments around the world recognize that a balance of power among the executive, legislative and judicial branches of government is essential.
“I believe that it is in the best interest of the Venezuelan people that we continue to monitor this situation.” (end)

I'm so glad my Senator is spending his time monitoring a sovereign nation. :sarcasm: I fell off my chair when I read the part about balance of power among the branches.
