What a small world. Sen. Pete Domenici (R-NM) has nabbed Lee Blalack, best known as Duke Cunningham's lawyer, to represent him in the Senate ethics investigation, The Washington Post reports.

And they note the obvious irony:

Blalack, a partner in O'Melveny & Myers LLP's Washington office, is an experienced defense lawyer. As attorney for Cunningham, who is serving a sentence of more than eight years, Blalack dealt with one of the federal prosecutors who was later ousted, Carol S. Lam of San Diego.

Interesting that the enabling legislation ( a rider in the Patriot Act) came from Senator Spector's office. Just goes to show . . . . :(

And if not, they should make whatever hay they can make of it ANYWAY. Because if he's not in a position to be reelected, the spill-over won't look good for other New Mexico GOPers - like maybe li'l miss heather? Isn't she the one nicknamed "Leather Heather"?

Randi Rhodes was talking about her having been in a tight race for reelection last November. The spill-over could take her straight to the unemployment line in '08. And if, as Randi said, she was/is being groomed as domenici's successor in the Senate, well, as they might paraphrase from that song - "Whoops! There goes another Senator's job..."
