High-profile women back Hillary Clinton
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2007/03/08/wusdems08.xml

When a woman is trying to break the "hardest and highest" glass ceiling she is entitled to seek a little help from her friends, and Hillary Clinton has been promised that, and more, by three high-profile women determined to help her to the White House next year.

Geraldine Ferraro, who in 1984 became America's first female vice-presidential candidate, has organized a "rapid reaction force" of prominent women who will defend Mrs Clinton on TV networks.

Madeleine Albright, the former Secretary of State, and Billie Jean King, the tennis champion and campaigner for women's rights, are being touted as members of the team. All three women made breakthroughs in their own fields, while Miss Albright has also helped to raise $1 million.

Mrs Clinton's campaign to become America's first female president will rely to a large extent on securing the women's vote in primaries for the Democratic nomination, particularly since her chief rival Barack Obama - aiming to become the first black presidential candidate - is likely to perform well with black voters.

1. Ms Clintons primary campaign will secure lots of Republican women voters
in any of the open primaries... Lots of Republican men as well.

Just so in the REAL vote she gets taken down hard.

fwiw - I'm a woman and I do not want to have HRC as my candidate after the primaries are over.

6. Surely you aren't referring to my post? I spoke of PRIMARIES
and not wanting HRC to be my candidate after the primaries were over. Because I believe the right wants her as our candidate and will come out in droves to defeat her in the presidential election.

Nowhere did I say I wanted a repuke to win.

12. The choice is NOT Hillary! or some random puke
We have plenty of candidates who are palatable to the general public. She'll lose royally.

9. So Republicans won't be bothered to vote for their candidates?
If this were an election against an incumbent your fear might make more sense but with both parties nominations being contested?

10. open dem primaries allow both parties to vote for dem candidate
if repubs are more concerned with winning than about WHICH repub wins, then having HRC as our nominee is in their favor.

11. I am aware of the concept of open primaries
"if repubs are more concerned with winning than about WHICH repub wins, then having HRC as our nominee is in their favor."

HRC or any of the top tier Dem candidates would destroy any of the GOP hopefuls.

Again I could see it in states after the GOP nomination is all but decided(which is also a likely point when the Dem nomination is decided_ or if they were running against and incumbent but it makes liuttle sense for the Republicans to attempt a massive crossover.

And lastly here are the states with open primaries in one form or another

Alabama
Arkansas
Georgia
Hawaii
Idaho
Indiana
Iowa
Michigan
Minnesota
Mississippi
Missouri
Montana
North Dakota
South Carolina
Tennessee
Texas
Vermont
Virginia
Washington
Wisconsin

The two that matter are So Carolina and Michigan because of their early positioning. With CA moving up their primary, it is likely that both nominations may be decided by the time Michigan is.

3. I really don't like Hillary
