Bob and Lee Woodruff on Hardball .........
......... Holy Shit.

What a story.

How wonderful to see him.

The most telling line: Tweety asked if he'd gotten special treatment. He said he got the same as any soldier over there would get.

That was the end of the exchange, and I'm happy to hear that. What the didn't discuss - and I would not have even expected them to discuss, really - was the aftercare. Surely his was far better than what the average 'troop' gets.

1. They are incredible people
I watched a one hour special of them recently. I am just amazed by them. One of the things in the special, she was worried he would wake up and not love her anymore. She said the doctors said there has never been a case of a brain injury waking up and not loving the people they had loved before the brain injury. I just think there's something supernatural about that.

2. Probably not
till he got to rehab if he went to a civilian rehab hospital... and he didn't get put in medical hold. I'd still much rather have traumatic care and rehab in a military hospital, they have so much more experience. I'm sure the care at Bethesda was superb but he wasn't treated any differently than any other patient. Please remember it was the out patient problems and the problems with the hospital administration at Walter Reed. No one complained about the Docs, nurses, corpsmen, physical therapists, orthostotists etc.

4. My OP was a bit too glib
I know that the issue is with outpatients and those already down to the level of the VA.

3. Tweety mentioned a case where a woman asked for an MRI for her
husband and was told he wouldn't get one because they (the hospital) didn't want to spend the money. Woodruff and his wife reacted with concern and seemed genuinely discomforted by the story.

5. They seem to be wonderful people.
I always liked Bob Woodruff, but I have new respect for him following this ordeal. Only someone in his position could bring such much-needed attention to the issue of traumatic brain injury among the returning injured vets.
