Gonzales, Mueller admit FBI broke law By LARA JAKES JORDAN, Associated Press Writer
46 minutes ago

The nation's top two law enforcement officials acknowledged Friday the FBI broke the law to secretly pry out personal information about Americans. They apologized and vowed to prevent further illegal intrusions.

Attorney General Alberto Gonzales left open the possibility of pursuing criminal charges against FBI agents or lawyers who improperly used the USA Patriot Act in pursuit of suspected terrorists and spies.

The FBI's transgressions were spelled out in a damning 126-page audit by Justice Department Inspector General Glenn A. Fine. He found that agents sometimes demanded personal data on people without official authorization, and in other cases improperly obtained telephone records in non-emergency circumstances.

The audit also concluded that the FBI for three years underreported to Congress how often it used national security letters to ask businesses to turn over customer data. The letters are administrative subpoenas that do not require a judge's approval.

"People have to believe in what we say," Gonzales said. "And so I think this was very upsetting to me. And it's frustrating."

Yeah, right...

1. So I was thinking this morning, is this a convenient way to get rid of
Gonzo and Mueller before anymore shit hits the fan with take your pick, (one from column A and one from column B or the pu-pu platter if you'd like!)

#1. Involvment in the US Attorney scandal, aka Purgegate
#2, Involvement in Plamegate and Libby stuff
#3 God knows what else these two have cooked up

I am writing to my Reps and Senators right now to look into these goons. Saying you are sorry isn't good enough. What is it going to take to BRING down this administration?

What a complete bunch of fuck-ups! My head is spinning reading the AM papers!

2. Something does sound fishy, doesn't it?

Gonzo is a bad seed.

And now for a totally unrelated Mueller factoid.

New Yorker Magazine (cached article from 3-8-04)
Senator Kerry is the first hockey-playing Presidential candidate since Eugene McCarthy. As a senior at St. Paul’s, in the winter of 1961-62, Kerry played on the varsity team. The captain and best player was a guy named Bobby Mueller, who is now better known as Robert S. Mueller III, the director of the F.B.I.

Who'da thunkit??

4. Wait, so if I break the law I can just apologize and promise not to do it again?
I totally didn't get that memo.
