An Edwards / Obama ticket would have to win Florida
cause they would be the most Crockett and Tubbs like ticket of all time.

1. I prefer Obama/Edwards myself.
Or Obama/Clark.

2. I like them both
But combined they have 8 years experience in the Senate. That level of inexperience would render the ticket weak, although both possess a ton of charisma and Edwards has a strong message about social justice that goes beyond the usual token nods toward dealing with poverty and other justice issues. Independently I believe they are formidable candidates but as a duo they would be weak. Perhaps Edwards or Obama, if they win the nomination, will find an experienced Democrat to balance the ticket, preferably one with the executive experience they are lacking? ;)

3. I would work hard for Edwards/Obama, but if the Republicans nominate either Guliania or
Romney, Edwards would carry a number of southern states, and not need Florida necessarily.

4. An Edwards/Obama ticket would be lacking in foreign policy experience
I'd prefer Obama/Clark myself.

9. Can you be more specific?
When did Clark "go ballistic" on someone and why do you think he is unstable?

14. sure they would
maybe against Romney. I think many Democratic tickets against Romney would look like the 1964 results for dems.

But nobody we have is winning Texas against McCain or even Giuliani. Richardsonians have yet to show any evidence or demostration of his super-hispanic lemming-vote-power. He doesn't even have a great personality. It's like he's doing anyone he's talking to a favor 24/7.

16. I still prefer Clark and then Edwards but.....
I honestly think that the Democratic nomination will be sewed up BEFORE the Texas primary, so I can't feel very much excitement about it.

2008 is no slam dunk for the Democrat. It's winnable AND loseable. It comes down to who's on the Democratic and Republican tickets and which ticket can swing the big segment of undecideds to join their base of true believers.

17. I duno...we need someone
Edited on Sat Mar-10-07 11:15 PM by HappyWeasel
who can give us a shot at Ohio,Iowa,NM,Colorado and Nevada. We need someone who can be competitive in the midwest and west for us to have a fighting chance. We probably don't need the south, but just focusing on keeping all of our territory and gaining Ohio will not cut it. I would say that Edwards/Obama would give us a reasonable shot at that. Gore did a little bit better than Kerry in the west, though. I left out Florida because I don't know if Florida is competitive anymore. I mean, by nominating Crist and having a lot of moderate republicans (Foley was actually a moderate GOPer), the FLGOP has built up the brand in Florida while the Florida dems are leaderless and sore....then again, maybe its time for a change after like 10 years of one party politics in Florida.

18. I agree with this assessment
I just don't see Kerry having much strength west of the Hudson.

The battle to get those all important 270+ electoral votes will be won or lost by how well the Democratic Party does in territory it usually doesn't win easily. Got to make some Red States competitive. Period.

As I have pointed out before, Northern candidates have had a terrible track record since JFK's slender victory in 1960. Humphrey (1968), Mondale (1984), Ford (1976), Dukakis (1988), McGovern (1972) -- all Northerners, all losers. Johnson (1964), Carter (1976), Clinton (1992,1996), Dubya (2000,2004) -- all from the South and all winners.
