Subject Victory! Nevada Dems Cancel Debate With Fox News

Woo-hoo! After a month of fighting and pressure from progressive activists like you, the Nevada Democratic Party has canceled its debate with Fox News. Eventually, Democratic leaders in the state were forced to realize that partnering with a conservative propaganda outlet was unacceptable to the activists who make their positions possible. Just last night, Fox News President Roger Ailes was joking about Barack Obama being a terrorist, but now his "news" organization will be taken down a notch and all Democrats will think twice before partnering with Fox News again.

This victory would not have been possible without a strong local blogosphere in Nevada. Blogs like the Las Vegas Gleaner, Reno and Its Discontents, and Turn Tahoe Blue played key roles in making this happen by offering vital local activism and perspective. Without this local Nevada progressive infrastructure, the Nevada Democratic Party would probably still be partnering with Fox News on an upcoming debate, terrorist jokes about leading Democrats and all.

At BlogPac, we are committed to making sure that every state has a progressive blogosphere as vibrant as Nevada's. In keeping with this mission, we have already given out twenty grants to local, progressive, community blogs around the nation. We will continue our fight to pry Democrats away from conservative infrastructure, while simultaneously building up new progressive infrastructure like local blogs.

............

We just made Roger Ailes cry. Let's do it again.

In solidarity,
Chris Bowers, BlogPac Treasurer

5. I will support the decision of the majority of Dems, but i still don't
understand whythey shouldn't confront their enemy? Maybe I'mjust naive, butit seems to me if you are a strong candidate, you shouldn't be afraid to go on any venue and show them what you got!

8. By hosting the debate
They get to frame all of the questions. Frankly I hate it when politicians spend half their time in their answers providing answers to questions that the moderators are unwilling to ask. I would rather have a non-partisan moderator asking non-loaded questions. That just isn't going to happen with Fox news hosting the debate.

4. FOX deserves the repudiation, deserves this slap in the face.

No reason we should hold them as equals in the news business. As pathetic as MSM news often is, FOX is completely off the charts.

Now let's keep up the pressure.

6. Failure to see reasoning
FOX shot themselves in the foot with Ailes comments about Obama. We might not like or consider FOX a worthwhile nes channel, which I don't but many Democrats have taken the plunge to go on FOX. What so many single minded, single purpose folks don't realize is that NORTHERN, again NORTHERN NV not Las Vegas, but NORTHERN NV, the rurals are at a HUGE disadvantage between registered Dem and Repub voters. FOX is the ONLY news channel that some rural area gets.

This was a blow to allowing our candidates to be seen. CNN, MSNBC, CSPAN, ABC,CBS,NBC are not played in any public building, all you see is FOX,FOX,FOX.

The Democrats in NORTHERN NEVADA NEED the REPUBLICANS to win, let me say that one more time. We NEED Republicans to win, they don't need us. Moderate Republicans and non-partisans watch FOX here in Northern NV, enough of them will cross over like they did with Jill Derby CD2 although it was not quite enough it also took 2 trips by the chimp and 1/2 a million dollars in the last 3 weeks of the campaign to beat her. A debate with her brain dead pretty boy competition out in say Elko or Winnemucca on yes FOX would have probably sealed the election for her.

I for one am disappointed that the debate has been canceled however under the circumstances of Ailes's comments it's necessary, not the blogging, complaining, and whinning about how unfair FOX is. I would hope that Chairman Collins would have hung in there if it had not been for Ailes comments.

7. Ailes is an asshole. That fact should not be underplayed.
FOX News is not news. It is a Bush and Republican propaganda machine, and it spews total distortions about Democrats -- ALL Democrats -- 24/7, 365 days a year.

For Edwards to refuse to kiss FOX's butt and for Richardson to bail as well, is the single greatest group strategy I've seen for weeks.

Bravo to the Democrats.

Go, team.
