McCain: GOP to blame for losing election

By JIM DAVENPORT, Associated Press Writer 58 minutes ago

CONWAY, S.C. - Republicans spent their way into losing control of Congress, presidential candidate John McCain (news, bio, voting record) says.

"The reason why we lost that election, my dear friends, was because we let spending get out of control," McCain told a breakfast crowd Saturday. "We came to power in 1994 to change government and government changed us."

McCain told the 225 people gathered at a restaurant on a bend in the Waccamaw River, not far from Myrtle Beach, that Republicans began to value power over principle, which caused spending to lurch completely out of control.

"It's got to stop," he said of the excesses, which also led to corruption among members of Congress. "We're going to have to clean up our act."

On the
Iraq war, McCain said the "titanic" struggle pits supporters of the nation's values against those of radical fundamentalism.

"We lose this war and come home, they'll follow us home," McCain said.

1. 35 to 0 was more than a loss, it was a major ass-kicking "McStain"
29 House seats, 6 Senate seats and every governor's race shows a lot more than just fiscal failures, it shows an epic failure of leadership in every area.

2. John just wrecked the last shred of
respect I had for him with the "they'll follow us home" cliche. He is smarter than that--he knows that's a fear-mongering, nonsensical lie. The insurgents aren't going anywhere--they're too busy jockeying for power. If he's talking about the resurgence of Al Qaeda, we created that by opening up a power vacuum. I have no problem fighting them, but that's where our combat role should end.

3. McCain channeling Bush, neocons again: "We lose this war and come home, they'll follow us home."
Absurd, and totally without merit. I cannot imagine they really believe this themselves, and only use it to pander to their right-wing war-mongering base.

4. Did the Viet Cong follow us home, Mr. McCain?
So, we are to believe that Al Sadar and his followers will be here on the next boat if we leave?????

What does this man not understand about the term CIVIL War?

5. Note he didn't mention the protection of Pedophile Congressman or
racist George Allen.

Maybe McCain needs to watch Ava's end of year video.

He seems to have forgotten a lot.

6. That's not what the exit polls said..
GOP corruption was the number one issue.

McCain is as much a lying sack of crap as any other corrupt Republic.

7. Fear mongering at its worst
Someone needs to state it loud and clear to assholes like McCain and Bush that the people who hate us simply want us the fuck out of their lives, period. We do that and they won't be following us home.

8. How noble of you, John.
You want to try and control spending now that your party was given a swift kick in the ass by the voters. Where have you been for the last decade? You can't be part of the solution. You are part of the problem! :eyes:

9. He knows he won't get the Republican nomination.
He's setting the stage for a 3rd party run.
