If Obama wasn't running and most of the votes were going to be sucked up

6. I agree. There was a poll on one post here yesterday

that showed him beating all repukes except Rudy, and even then he lost by only two points. I hope we Dems don't make the fatal mistake next year of nominating the one we LIKE, as opposed to the one who can WIN. We might be really sorry on election night if we do and then it will be too late.

Not that I don't like Hillary, but the General election would be so nervewracking I don't think I could stand it!

7. I don't even want to think about Obama not being in the race

He's breathed more life into dem politics than we've seen in 50 years, in my opinion. Part of that is his diverse heritage, part of that is his insight, part of it is his ability to communicate progressive ideas in a manner that makes sense and resonates with the average voter, and part of it is his charisma.

The only candidate that has come close to his qualities in recent years has been Bill Clinton, who was considerably to the right of our top candidates today (granted, it was a different time and Clinton brought us some much-needed relief from the Reagan/HW Bush years). Obama has the makings of a true populist, progressive president- something our nation is long overdue for.

With that said, if I had to choose which candidate would win between Hillary and Edwards in the primaries, I would guess Hillary hands down. The general election would be a different story, though. While Hillary has the money and the political movers and shakers on her side, I think it would be nearly impossible for her to overcome her high unfavorable ratings among average voters.
