Idling till now, Hagel (R-Ne) may shift to '08 gear

Hagel's announcement is being carried on live TV here. Look for a post shortly after 10 central time tomorrow on what Hagel is going to do.

snip: Some Nebraska Republicans speculate that Hagel will set up a presidential exploratory committee. Others say that even if he forms the exploratory committee, he may postpone a decision about a presidential bid until fall.

If he jockeys into the race now, he runs the risk of being overshadowed by today's Big Three: Rudolph Giuliani, John McCain and Mitt Romney.

All of them already have raised bags of campaign cash and hired top talent to run their campaigns. Waiting until fall could allow him to emerge as an alternative if those candidates falter.

A clue about Hagel's plans may lie in a campaign document he issued for his first U.S. Senate bid in 1996: "I support term limits. However, I will not need term limits. Twelve years in Congress is enough for anyone."

FULL story at link.

1. Chuck should run a hardware store in Cincinnati.
I don't want him in the White House.

3. I suspect that if he enters it, he will get it.
The others may be the big three, but they all have failing points that come out to hurt them big time. Hagel may be their safest bet in the long run. Maybe, I don't know that much about him other than he a republican and I don't like him.
