Rep. Turner wants to see Army surgeon general ousted
Inside Washington
BY MALIA RULON

WASHINGTON - U.S. Rep. Mike Turner wants more officials to pay for the poor conditions found at Walter Reed Army Hospital, one of the nation's main facilities for treating veterans wounded in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The Centerville Republican called Thursday for Defense Secretary Robert Gates to relieve Army surgeon general and former commander of the Walter Reed Army Hospital, Lt. Gen. Kevin Kiley, of his command.

Turner's letter to Gates comes after Army Secretary Francis Harvey was forced to resign and hospital commander Maj. Gen. George W. Weightman was fired.

Turner, a member of the House Armed Services, veterans, and government reform committees, said Kiley's answers to questions during recent hearings "demonstrated his lack of awareness of deplorable conditions literally right across the street from where he lived" and an "absolute unwillingness to accept responsibility."
