1. Everyone conveniently seems to forget about the Iran Contra affair.

Much nastier than most suspect.

And, we all know Nancy Reagan was running the country, based on what her astrologer told her.

Can you say WACKO?

13. Iran-Contra and a few dozen other sins.
I also cherish the memories of him falling asleep during meetings with world leaders and fumbling with jars of jelly beans when he was supposed to be paying attention at summits. He was a clown who made people feel good.

27. Many of the people who idolize him now are not old enought to
have been politically aware during his Presidency. They are basing their opinion on what they have heard and not on what they actually experienced. The rest of them compromise Bush's base, IMO, and have the same mentality. They can't admit that he had any faults because they think it will reflect badly on them since they voted for him.

...in the classroom. I went back, and it was still there just slightly more abused.

That's for sure. It's just their noise machine and dum-dums.

That most presidents are adequate for the period in time in which they serve... can Reagan be considered one of those?

The Contras were as much terrorists as Hezbollah, etc.

6. 1981 represented the beginning of the downfall of this great nation
Reagan was a joke, G1 was the prez, Reagan just the front puppet. We have only gone downhill since. Look where we are now after those 18 out of 26 yrs of Repuke rule.
Thank God Bill gave us a reprieve for a while.

sitting in the oval office in suit and tie ordering the murder of priests and nuns and children. Just a great fucking human being. Would you like ketchup as a side dish or as an entree?

9. He was a cruel man...who talked often..
of the disdain he had for the young people of this country, this world...many of whom had just fought a war 'for his freedom'.
The archetype of today's * classism.

15. He was addled with alzheimer's in his second term (and possibly
his first), but that means nothing to those who worship him--you just need to be an impressive figurehead to earn the GOP's adulation. Look at Chimpy. Never mind, he's not all that impressive, LOL!

17. I'm sick of hearing that he single-handedly ended the Cold War
among other things, but that seems to be the number one thing they like to put him on the pedestal for. Oh, and when the Cons go through their long list of terrorist attacks that include Khobar Towers and the USS Cole, they always conveniently (or selectively?) leave out the 1983 bombing in Beirut by two suicide bombers.

18. Heck, ending the Cold War was the last thing they wanted! But,
very temporarily, it was the price they had to pay for giving "carte blanche" for Russian mafiosi to take over the country, (people, to borrow of phrase of vandal Thatcher) they could do business with. Now they're furious with Putin for clipping the wings of them both. How could the military-industrial complex continue to burgeon out of control without new enemies?

20. The idiots who try to convince people that Ronnie was a saint are about
as mentally fit as he was during the Iran/Contra hearings. But they are also evil. Very fake, very mean-spirited, selfish, hateful, and think that all's fair if it gets them what they want.

23. If you really want to give Repugs a corronary, quote this article.
(Reagan's Liberal Legacy)

When you rattle off the tax increases that Reagan put in place, Repugs suddenly develop weird facial ticks and mutter stuff about dealing with a Democratic congress. It kind of shoots down their myths.

29. I've always said: Reagan was one horrific plane crash away
from being run out of office in disgrace after he fired the ATC people. I remember the media reporting tons of near misses, but if there had been just one major crash attributed to the firing, he would have been toast.

In an alternate universe where greed, corruption, lies, prejudice, intellectual laziness and just plain old blaming the victim are all great values.

and funding terrorists in Latin America while arming Iran. He did more to support terrorism than any President in US history.
