Can The Call For * & Cheney's Resignation Be Too Far Behind?.......
I see where someone in the AG's office resigned. We have a number of military that have been either been fired or resigned due to the Walter Reed & V.A. problems. Libby has been convicted. Peter Pace just dissed the gays and is in trouble. There are calls for Alberto Gonzo's resignation. Rove's been fingered as being involved with the firing of the state AG's - so interference from within the WH. Bottom line is that this administration is self-destructing from within. Could it be long before there are calls for both * and Cheney to step-down and get out?

You know - yesterday I thought that maybe that is what Hagel's press conference would be about. Either that he was going to call for WH resignations or impeachment. After all he did make a comment to that effect in a magazine interview - I believe it was Esquire. Now I'm hoping that he didn't shoot himself in the foot because if he comes to that conclusion about *Co - they will just say it's because he is grandstanding because he wants to be president.

At any rate - it is time for the Repugs to go to the WH and give *Co the Nixon ultimatum - resign or be impeached. Everyday that * and Cheney remain in office now - are just nails in the coffin of the Repug party. The Repugs have to be close to this decision.

2. I wouldn't hold my breath...
they will not cede power in any scenario, it's their lifeblood, their addiction. Doing anything remotely similar to what you suggest would be an admission that their policies and "vision" for our country is completely wrong. They continue to believe that their's is the one true blueprint for American greatness on the world stage. No matter that everything they've done has turned to shit, they can't see beyond the end of their own noses. Or egos.

3. They'll fight it out
Calls might and hopefully will come but Bush/Cheney are so arrogant and so utterly contemptuous of anyone who doesn't agree with them that they'll ignore those calls. If given the Nixon ultimatum, they'll choose to be impeached and fight it out. If they can get away with it, they'll shut down or ignore impeachment procedings.

The frightening thing is that towards the end of Watergate, someone pointed out to Nixon (hopefully in jest) that he was still C-in-C of the military, he could always resist his removal. Nixon stepped back from that (and, as it turned out, someone else had already ensured it wouldn't work anyway) but does anyone actually think for even one millisecond that Bush/Cheney would even hesitate to call out the military or dissolve Congress or declare martial law?

I know this sounds paranoid, I know this sounds like the raving of a madman but history is a hobby of mine and the Unholy Triumverate (Bush/Cheney/Rove) are as evil and as power-hungry as anything we've seen in recent history. If the law blocks them, they'll change the law or ignore it. If Congress blocks them, they'll ignore Congress or invoke unitary authority or just find some way to dissolve Congress altogether. Impeachment, the necessary first step, might well be meaningless because the Bush junta, if impeached, might well just refuse to vacate the Whitehouse or surrender power. I don't like to draw Nazi comparisons very often because I think they're overused but Hitler didn't start out exterminating Jews, he started out in a very similar fashion to Chimpy, the eroding of rights, the demonising of dissent, the politicisation of fear through some national disaster (the Reichstag in Hitler's case, 9/11 in Chimpy's). The two patterns are very similar and I fear that if Chimpy is not removed ASAP, he will become as bad. Comparatively few Germans were actively involved in the Nazi party but Bush's backing now comprises about 30% of the country. If the still support him now, they will support him through anything (and I do mean anything). For someone as power-hungry as Bush and as cleverly evil as Rove/Cheney, it would be child's play to manipulate that 30% into supporting the dissolution of Congress or imprisonment of dissenters or, well anything really.

Doubt that? Doubt that people could be manipulated to that extent? I can understand that but I have a one word answer: Torture. If 30% (give-or-take) of the populace can be manipulated into accepting torture as necessary, they can be manipulated into literally anything.

4. There may well be a "call" for their resignations
but we all know it will never happen. Credible people have been calling for their impeachment for years, but again - fuhgeddaboudit.

5. Naw, let them "swirl around the bowl" a little while longer--
they're sure to give us more ammo, or at least public pressure will build against them. And then we can flush.

6. Keep pushing hard and we might get it.
If we give up now, it won't happen. What will make it happen is constant, sustained pressure from the people on their elected officials. Keep bugging them. Keep calling your Rep's and Senator's offices, keep writing letters, keep protesting, keep up with civil disobedience such as the Occupation project, and they'll eventually come through for us and turn the heat up on Bush and Cheney.

7. One thing I would NOT want to see us do.....
is underestimate our opponent....these guys are dangerous, and the more cornered, threatened they become...the more dangerous they also become...we forget that, at our own peril...oh, I want them gone..and I want all the laws they've enacted, and the presidential signings gone too...but we have to be careful how it's done..and make sure there is NO undoing any of it...
