What might be holding Gore back?
I'm just wondering whether he's not running because the Clintons have "asked" him not to?

Because I think he could beat her. He has just as much name recognition, he's stayed 100% out of the Iraqi war politics, he understands the executive office...

I just wonder...

2. Because the Clintons asked him????????????
Hahahahahahahahahahahaha

A snowball has a better chance surviving a week's vacation in hell than Gore holding back because the Clintons asked him.

3. Maybe he's waiting for Clinton and Obama to wear each other down?
Same strategy used by Kerry's campaign in 2004, sort of. Let a couple of DLC-funded 527s steer Dean into a head-on collision with Gephardt and watch them both fold.

I'm not saying that the Kerry camp was responsible for the mess, but they were certainly able to capitalize on the aftermath.

4. I think he's afraid of discrediting his climate change work...
...by opening himself up to claims that he just used the issue to get himself elected president. (but that's just a guess on my part)

Mrs. Gore does not want him to run.
Can you blame her?

6. Crazy talk. If he gets in, it'll be because Clinton or Obama tanks.
Edited on Tue Mar-13-07 05:09 PM by Kerry2008
My thoughts are Gore will get in if Clinton starts to stumble, and the race needs a lead candidate besides Obama and Edwards to take charge. And he'll get in if Obama starts to trip, and make sure voters have the anti-Hillary candidate to vote for. Obviously, I'm skeptical if Gore will run. But I think he's watching the race with a close eye, and dangling it over our heads to remind us he's still here!!

What a big tease ;)

Run, Al run!!

8. Well, the 'big tease'...
Edited on Tue Mar-13-07 05:25 PM by elizm
...actually pisses me off. I would have been whole-hearted for Gore 4 months ago. But I have gotten behind Obama now, after seeing him in person as well as in videos, and I am sticking with Obama. If Gore thinks he can jump in late and steal the show, he might be listening to the same people who steered him wrong in 2000.

12. So let's just say Obama starts to tank. You don't think Gore should get in?
Edited on Tue Mar-13-07 05:29 PM by Kerry2008
I'm not saying Obama will, and I hope he doesn't. But I think Gore is keeping the door slightly open just in case Obama or Clinton starts to tank. It's smart on his part, and frankly whats the big deal? It's obvious Gore doesn't want to run unless he's 100% needed.

Clark got into the race in September of 2003, and still had a great showing. Gore's a lot bigger of a name then General Clark. He has time on his side!!

17. Listen to that, though...
... 'Gore doesn't want to run unless he is 100% needed'. Is that the kind of 'passion' you want in our next President? I can't say it is what I want...and NOT what I am HOPING for in my candidate.

23. Clinton didn't enter the 1992 race until October 1991.
Edited on Tue Mar-13-07 05:59 PM by Alexander
I think Gore would be exactly right to "jump in late and steal the show" as you say. It worked for his boss, after all.

Am I the only one who thinks the '08 presidential season is starting just a little too early?

24. "a LITTLE too early"?!?! Methinks way, way, WAY too early.
It's absolutely ridiculous for a Pres. campaign to take 2 friggin' years.

Europeans have their elections in a very short timeframe. Makes more sense.
Their is SOOOOOOO much about our election system that needs to be reformed...

10. I don't think he wants
a head to head battle with Hillary. He would win it and I think he knows it but for his own personal reasons I do not believe he wants to go there. It would probably be brutal and he is presently having a good time with his life. I really get the feeling that he has no intentions of running.

11. I think he's still undecided
The process of running for office is so maddeningly frustrating that I honestly think Gore decided to never do it again back in 2001. After all the sleaze directed at himself and Kerry, the lies, the exagerations, the insinuations, after all of that which had to be depressing and had to be upsetting to his family, I think he decided never again.

I also think he'll only run again if he's convinced that the good he could do from the Oval Office, with his hands actually on the levers of power, is worth going through all that shit again.

16. How could anyone...
How could anyone in a position to be able to bring about change (as Al Gore is) sit this one out? I lie awake at night worrying about what is happening in our country. I join protests in DC and I stay as active online, as well as locally, to try to bring about change and find a way to get our country back from those who have stolen it from us. If Al Gore doesn't think it is 'worth it' to go through all that shit again...knowing that he has a power none of us do here...then I, for one, think perhaps he SHOULD NOT run. I want a leader who is as passionate about saving our country. If he 'decides' at a later date that it is worth the shit...then I hope he will find the supporters he will need.

14. Why would he run?
I know I surely would not want to face trying to clean up George's mess. Not that Gore could not do it. I think he could. But, America needs him to be president far far far more than he needs the presidency.

Just think about it for a moment. Bush has screwed up so badly, so horrifically, that it will take generations - GENERATIONS to undo what he has wrought. I wouldn't want the job.

I like Al Gore too much to ask this of him.
