"Swift Boat Veterans For Truth" Expose McCain as "Communist Apologist."
Edited on Wed Mar-14-07 03:09 PM by wyldwolf
 No, this ain't no joke!

... a new “527” advocacy group, similar to the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, has pledged to expose McCain as a communist apologist who turned his back on prisoners of war.

... the McCain campaign had no comment on the new 527, known as “Vietnam Veterans Against John McCain.” It is founded by the same veterans who ran an Internet information campaign against Kerry in 2004, “Vietnam Veterans Against John Kerry.”

Vietnam veterans Jerry Kiley and Ted Sampley filed with the IRS late last month and recently launched a website with the “express purpose of defeating John McCain.” In contrast to the 2004 election, the group plans to run ads on television and radio in addition to its Web-based approach.

3. OK, this just crossed my mind ...
McCain and Kerry have both now faced these mudslingers -- and I've heard McCain say he'd only serve a single term because of his age. Do you think he'd even consider asking his (former?) buddy Kerry being on a "unity ticket" as veep? I'm not saying I'd support this, but this 527 development reminded me of the common threads between McCain and Kerry.

18. No
It won't work as they are 180 degrees apart on the war and on most other topics.

What it does remind me of is that in the early 1990s when Ted Sampley first attacked McCain, Kerry had Sampley thrown out of the hearing and spoke of how the charges against McCain were "beyond cruel". McCain, in his second book which covered his Senate career, spoke of how throughout those hearings, Kerry stayed by his side and when he senses McCain would blow up over outrageous accusations, Kerry would put his hand on McCain's arm to lend support and help him cool down.

So, how did McCain repay his friend's kindness and support? When the SBVT came out, McCain did say they were despicable, but when his comment was used in an ad defending Kerry - McCain demanded it be removed and Kerry complied.

The odd thing is that it is likely that one of the people who may attack Sampley if he attacks McCain may be Senator Kerry - who is a far better man than McCain ever could be.

defending Kerry against Ted Sampley.

24. I didn't know that and am glad to hear that
I wish McCain would have taken a stronger position on the SBVT- but do see that he wanted Bush to win, because he very likely knew that Kerry did not have the same agenda as he did on the War on Terror and PNAC. He may have seen after Kerry's convention that without those attacks, Kerry would likely win. He knew Kerry - knew there were no scandals, knew that Kerry would kill Bush in the debates. He also had to know Kerry was the better person - by far.

A part of me still thinks, even for his own soul and his future, McCain could have scored real points, by demanding the Reps at the convention remove the purple heart bandages out of respect to him and other soldiers.

from everything i saw McCain's defense of Kerry was weak compared to how Kerry defended McCain.

4. This should be interesting
Will the major news media concentrate on the unfounded allegations of one person who didn't serve with John McCain, which will be shown to be at variance with 28 or so guys who did serve with McCain, and then grant all kinds of unwarranted credibility on the one contrarian? Because that's pretty much what the Swift Liars did to Kerry. And the media pretended for months that there was just no way to sort it all out, because one guy said Kerry was a phony and 28 guys, the official military record, and contemporaneous accounts all said Kerry was the real deal, who could have been awarded more than just the three Purple Hearts he had earned.

Will Sen. Straight Talk of the Forked Tongue get the same "we can't tell" treatment from the media?

9. You're right - this is BushInc's way of pulling the rug out from McCain - the one
they let him weave for the last 7 years, thinking that by supporting Bush he was covering ground he needed for 2008.

BushInc is really in Romney's corner behind the scenes.

12. BushCo will be to blame when McCain finally goes nuts and ends up in
an institution, for leading him on all these years and encouraging him to give up his honor and dignity for his "turn". Lucy is about to pull the football away.

7. This is truly awful...how much more could this guy have done for his
country and his fellow prisoners? He stayed longer than most just so his captors couldn't use him as a propaganda tool (because of his father's position). I couldn't imagine staying one day, or one hour, longer than necessary, let alone YEARS, to endure the abuse. Sick, but predictable stuff--they did this in 2000.

11. As much as I care little for mccain...
these 527 bastards have some kind of fetish for destroying decorated Veterans. What they did to Senator Kerry was unconscionable and what they plan for mccain is equally wrong. And a "red" scare is just what we need now, right? NOT.

I hope this backfires on them. Mccain will never be elected, leave his military record alone. These swiftboaters are the malignant tumors of humanity. In this case, our enemy's enemy would just as soon cut all of our throats.

17. I have no doubt the corpmedia won't work complicitly against McCain like they did Kerry
but mainly because this action against McCain is all about the primaries and it is aimed at Republican underground smear machine that operates AROUND the mainstream to reach their voting audience.
