Poll question: Will we see post after post on Obama's inability to say homosexuality is not immoral...
Edited on Thu Mar-15-07 09:26 AM by SaveElmer
As we have for Hillary? I'm guessing not...

On Wednesday, Newsday repeatedly asked Obama if same-sex relationships were immoral.

"I think traditionally the Joint Chiefs of Staff chairman has restricted his public comments to military matters," said Obama, leaving Capitol Hill. "That's probably a good tradition to follow."

He turned the conversation to opposition to the military's "don't ask, don't tell" policy: "I think the question here is whether somebody is willing to sacrifice for their country."

Later, an Obama spokesman said the senator, in fact, disagrees with Pace.

3. I'll take Obama (and the dumb stuff he says and does) over Hillary
Edited on Thu Mar-15-07 09:40 AM by skipos
(and the dumb stuff she says and does) anyday. EVERY candidate is going to disappoint us in some ways, but HRC will always take the cake for many of us.

9. They will often do the same "dumb" stuff
but no one is going to do more of it than HRC, in my opinion.

18. Obama Criticize
Obama has been criticized on DU. To say he has not is untrue.

6. Listen to ABC's Tapper's podcast. Hillary doesn't miss a beat in dodging the question.

7. Is there an assumption that Blacks oppose equating the struggle for gay rights
with the struggle for racial equality? I seem to remember reading something a couple years back that Black church leaders were unhappy with equating the two. I have no idea if that was/is generally true or if that sentiment can be generalized the entire black population.

But if there is such an assumption, Why assume that journos will stay away from asking Obama that question? It would be a potential wedge issue and it seems to me they'd be more likely to probe that than not.

8. Hillary said
"I disagree with what he said and do not share his view, plain and simple."

"It is inappropriate to inject such personal views into this public policy matter, especially at a time in which there are young men and women in such grave circumstances in Iraq, in Afghanistan, and around the world," Clinton said.

Did Obama say that he disagreed? Nope.

12. Yes, I know, but I'm still curious about whether there is an assumption
about Black sentiment on characterizing gay rights as a struggle for civil rights not unlike the struggle for racial equality?

Maybe that's a question for a separate thread.

10. There should never be an assumption can be applied to an entire population
It was also posted here that Obama won't be criticized on this board. That's actually not true.

19. Please, don't make it into another thread
This question was posted some time ago and it received some very uninformed and offensive comments.

20. hmm...I missed it.
I don't mean to be divisive. Indeed, I'm interested in quite the opposite. But rather than calling for loyalty for the sake of loyalty, I wonder what is keeping the "Party" from turning some fractured interests into more general principles that can gain broader support.

14. However, it is most often true
That Clinton will be criticized and Obama or Edwards won't on the same issue. I am not a Clinton supporter, but there is an extreme double standard at work here.

17. Your question above is about race
I don't really think the double standard here at DU is about that. I think there is a ton of genuine animosity against Clinton herself on DU, regardless of Obama. But the way I see the problem, DUers are not willing to get past their personal sentiments and level criticism equally, on a situation by situation basis, issue by issue, among the candidates, who should all be critiqued on every issue before we settle on a nominee.

11. Obama v. Hillary
The preseason fashionable favorites slugfest.

Funny how folks tend to overlook, excuse, explain and outright ignore something that might reflect poorly on their preference. Not the least bit surprising and absolutely consistent with human behavior. We are often blind to the faults of what we choose.
