I mean seriously what difference could it make?

BTW Thompson is going to be one hell of a candidate IF he can gather attention and raise enough money.

1. What do you mean IF?
Going over to the right side of the tubes you can see that they talk about almost nothing else but Fred and how he is a real conservative. A real grassroots conservative, or so says the rabid right.

Thompson is a real rabid conservative who hates medicare/social security and of course pushes all the right moral buttons.

Surely there are a few more cheney clowns that they can pull out again, how about Dick Thornburgh again?

6. Why not?
It's not like his part is THAT big on Law & Order.....

I know at L&O discussion boards people have been talking about his proposed candidacy--what is the stumbling block for the conservatives appears to be his abortion stand, of all things. (He's anti-choice--I framed the argument that way and promoted a discussion that seemed to bring some of the conservatives around-just a heads up if anyone else has to talk to conservatives about it-frame it as government interference and you wind up winning the argument).

7. Thompson's actually better qualified to be AG than Gonzo!
He was an impressive assistant AG among other things. From his Wikipedia bio:

He received a J.D. degree from Vanderbilt University Law School in 1967. He was admitted to the Tennessee bar in 1967 and commenced the practice of law, serving as an assistant U.S. attorney from 1969–1972. He was the campaign manager for Senator Howard Baker's successful re-election campaign in 1972, which led to a close personal friendship with Baker, and he served as co-chief counsel to the Senate Watergate Committee in its investigation of the Watergate scandal, (1973–1974). He was responsible for Baker's asking one of the questions that is said to have led directly to the downfall of President Richard Nixon—"What did the President know, and when did he know it?" Also, Thompson's voice has become immortalized in recordings of the Watergate proceedings, asking the key question, "Mr. Butterfield, are you aware of the installation of any listening devices in the Oval Office of the President?"

In 1977, Thompson took on a Tennessee Parole Board case that ultimately toppled Tennessee Governor Ray Blanton from power on charges of selling pardons. The scandal became the subject of a book and a movie titled Marie (1985) in which Thompson played himself, supposedly because the producers were unable to find a professional actor who could play him plausibly. This film launched his acting career.

The replies are interesting. But here in TN, he is very well thought of by Repukes.

13. The guy never smiles!
I know this is a minor consideration when running for office, but check out his shots on Google images--he never smiles.* He always looks like he's pissed off about something.

He makes Dick Cheney look like Rodney Dangerfield.

________
*Ok, ok, there's that one from Free Republic--looks like he's smiling. But if I were holding hands with the person he's holding hands with, I might be smiling too! :)
