Senate rejects timetable for troop withdrawal from Iraq
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Democrats failed Thursday to get the 60 votes they needed for approval of a resolution that would have set a timetable for the withdrawal of troops from Iraq.

The resolution, which was sponsored by Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada, would have directed the Bush administration to begin phased troop withdrawal within 120 days of enactment, and would have set a goal of troop withdrawal by March 31, 2008, except for certain missions. (Posted 4:17 p.m.)

1. Our troops must all die to justify bush's lies

Its what the conservatives in our communities from coast to coast want. More die in car wrecks say the conservatives so its no big deal, and after all, they are all volunteers who come home and lie about their PTSD. Ask any flag waving conservative.

I think all other Dems voted aye, and all Republicans voted nay, but we'll have to wait for the roll call to know for sure. Johnson is missing and I guess one other senator -- who I don't know.


Just remember, though, that the Kerry/Feingold amendment got 13 votes in June '06. This bill is VERY similar and got 48. So that is progress. This will be a long fight.

I do find it interesting about Pryor. Wonder who is advising him?

Sounds to me like some Dems wanted to ASSURE the vote would fail, so hey needed a trade-off vote because they couldn't be seen voting NO.

I saw this alot during balanced budget debate - some GOPs would always make sure to vote NO while the loudmouths got to act tough about it knowing full well they didn't want a balanced budget act to pass, either.

Pryor and Nelson (imagine that!) betrayed us. Hagel betrayed himself; is there any doubt now, that someone in the WH got to him???

when we see another thread praising Hagel. Yeah, he talks a good talk, but when it comes to action he is less than useless.

7. Nelson and Hagel hate each other with a passion, but

the boys from Nebraska see the war the same way--they worked on the Warner-Levin res together. They would never have voted for a drawdown of troops. They just want combat ops to end in Baghdad, and then change the strategy to support, border patrol, etc. I knew neither of them would vote for this.

military enlistment forms so that they can sacrifice their kids to this war they voted for.
