Wanna know why I support ANY candidate in the current 08' field?
Because of the last six-seven years.

Because of this bloody and tragic war that Bush and his conservative rubberstamp Republicans in Congress wish to continue.

Because of the fact that Bush gives big tax cuts to the wealthy in the middle of a war, and the middle class is getting squashed.

Because of global warming for god sakes.

Because of the fact we need the right judges to uphold the constitution.

Because of the reputation we've lost around the world as the nation of hope and goodwill, and instead the reputation we've gained as the assholes of the world.

And last but not least....

Because of the Republicans. Goes along with my first point, but we can't STAND another eight years of this. Hell, another four years!! We simply can not.

So remember that when you vow not to vote for Obama, Clinton, or Edwards. Remember the high stakes, and the fact that ANY of our candidates would do ten times a better job in the White House than ANY GOP candidate would. Support who you want in the primary, but DON'T oppose any of our great candidates in the general election. We need you to take back this country along with us. If you don't help us, and we lose, you'll regret it. Mark my words.

And applying this logic to DU...

Enough RW talking points. Enough providing ammo against our candidates based on the MSM's style of gotcha politics. Enough lying, distorting, and misleading DU members about other candidates to overshadow insecurities and flaws with your own candidate. No candidate is flawless. But you take any of the flaws of our candidates, and they don't begin to stack up against those of the Republicans.

NO...MORE...REPUBLICANS!!

As our good friend Bill Richardson would say. You want someone to solve the many problems of our nation in 2008? Do it in four words: Elect a democratic President!!

3. Thank you, thank you.
It's simply alarming hearing people saying "I won't support candidate X" already. We've all had candidates we didn't think were the best choice. But as the nominee we unified behind them because they were the best shot we had at getting it right in America. If you want your candidate to be the nominee, get to work!! Otherwise, it's quite simply stupid to say that already. We NEED someone on our side of the aisle in the White House in January of 2009!!

2. Want to know why I don't?
There are choices, and I prefer to avoid a backstabber and anyone whose Iraq position I don't feel comfortable with.

If anything the last six years should impressed upon people is that a president should be trustworthy.

4. So if Hillary's the nominee you won't support her?
You don't think she'll be better than any Republican?

If people don't want her as the nominee, work against her in the primary!! But I'd hope people would unify behind her in the general election for the simple fact she's on our side and more times then not will be ten times better then any Republican President would be.

I'm not saying you were talking about Hillary. But I was using her as the example, since she is the popular example of such.

5. There is still another year of primary campaigning to go.
The choices currently are the Democratic candidates. Let's deal with that and try not to spin questions to avoid the debate that must take place. The idea behind a primary isn't to sit passively by and go along with what all the candidates say. This is a vetting process.

6. I'm aware of the year of campaigning to go. I'm aware Hillary hasn't won anything.
Edited on Sun Mar-18-07 02:00 PM by Kerry2008
I'm alarmed by the fact that anyone would say they won't vote for her if she gets the nomination however. She's not my first, second, third or fourth choice. But I think that statement that some DUers say is down right stupid!! We can't AFFORD four or eight more years of this bullshit.

Will you vote for her assuming she makes it past the year of primary campaigning? Simple question, I think. I'm not trying to box you in or anything, I just want to know. Especially if you can justify that position of opposition to Hillary even if she's the nominee.

7. But you are
trying to box Prosense in. You are asking hypotheticals, and at this time in the primary in '03 hardly anyone had chosen a candidate. Yet you are asking and you are the one who used a certain name, you could of put in all the candidates names not just one.

I have no idea WHO I will vote for but I know I would never vote Republican but I also know that my vote is my personal heart and gut feeling and that is exactly how I will vote.

10. I'm not boxing her in. I'm asking her a question about her apparent...
...opposition to Hillary Clinton. And it goes beyond this thread, my friend. I just want to get inside the head of people whom are against Hillary no matter what, and understand. Because 2008 is too important to disqualify any candidate if they get the nomination. Wouldn't you agree the stakes are high? Very high!!

12. What is your issue? The stakes are high, and there are choices.
Your framing seems to be all about Hillary. This election isn't about Hillary. Then again, support her if you want to, I choose to be more critical in making my choice. Also, I certainly am not going to respond to your ultimatum. A lot can happen between now and the general election.

14. I'll support her if she gets the nomination.
Otherwise my support goes behind Clark or Gore if they enter, and/or Edwards!

This election isn't about Hillary. But she has a good chance of winning the nomination. And I believe it's ignorant for some to suggest they won't vote for her IF she wins the nomination. I'm not FOR handing the Republicans victory so they can continue to crumble America. If she gets the nomination, she'll have my support. But I hate to assume, but it seems like you wouldn't do the same. And I simply see no logic behind that.

13. This is the issue at hand. The issue at hand in this thread....
...is the importance of getting a democrat elected in 2008!!

Some people here seem to think certain candidates shouldn't get their vote even if they are the nominee. And thats wrong. Why? Because the stakes are too high this time. We can't afford more of this bullshit anymore. And even if they aren't the best nominee, I would hope people would support OUR nominee. Whomever it may be!!

... and how their decisions can alter the very fabric of American life. It is critical that we get a Dem in the WH in 2008. Justice Stevens is 86 and his shelf-life is expiring.

20. Please don't get me wrong...
I couldn't vote for a Republican presidential candidate if you put a gun to my head. Frankly, I'd rather be shot. Because if we have a Republican for 4 more years, this country will continue its spiral down the toilet, and I'll lose all desire to live in it.

But there will always be times when we vote for the lesser of two evils, or for candidates that we don't necessarily like.

I am standing back, reserving my energy, money and vote, for a candidate that I am convinced can beat whomever the Republicans field. I'm still not sure which one that is. It's starting to look like it won't be McCain. I'm thinking it might be Gilmore or Hagel. It's going to require a certain level of shrewdness, and not just popularity and momentum.

So, I'm waiting to see the field. I have noticed that there is a small minority of us who think that the campaigning started way too early, almost inappropriately. It has overshadowed the important work that needs to be done in Congress... and that most of us were expecting.

Frankly, I'm a bit pissed about that. No, not a bit pissed. HIGHLY pissed. I think in some cases, jumping in now shows a lack of priorities. My belief is that January - June 2007 WAS the time in which to focus on Congressional responsibilities.

But really, this won't stop me from voting for whatever Democratic candidate is on the presidential ticket in November 2008. Not "Libertarian" or "Independent". It could be Minnie Mouse, and I still would vote for a Democrat.

Still, I'm not happy to see that things have gotten this bad, and IF electing a Democrat doesn't turn things around within the next 8 years, then I will have to start considering other options.

somebody I can support without too much problems get the nomination. So, do not expect from me that, at this point, I am going to ignore whatever issue I have with any candidate.
Once the nomination is done, it is another question.

It matters who we nominate to be our candidate for President in 2008.

It matters who will be the next President of the United States.

or if not, maybe we should all find a big hole, crawl in and hopefully, someone will come along and throw dirt on.

I could have given you my sister's standard retort to Dems with the "I won't vote for (D)_______Syndrome.....

"GET YOUR HEAD OUT OF YOUR ASS!"

However, I'm not quite as outspoken as she is, so I won't. ;-)

so I'll take my chance here to proclaim that I will vote for any Democrat president running against any Republican. I may complain about them, I may disagree with some of their views, but the overall picture is too heinous to sit back just because my "dream candidate" isn't running.

And even then it's going to be some hard going...
