If Gonzo goes...my pick for Attorney General...
if he would do it. He's an old guy, but he's still very sharp, and he's squeaky clean (which will probably disqualify him for consideration by Der Bush.)

He's a Republican, but served as AG for Jimmy Carter.

Griffin Bell.

Otherwise, I don't know who else Dubya could name and get both parties to agree on.

Your thoughts?

3. I'm just trying to figure out who would replace Gonzo...
I'd like to hear other's opinions. I mean, after all this, who would want it, and who could do it?

8. I agree. However...
given that there's 49 Republicans, all it takes is one Dem, if the GOP manages to vote lock-step. Even assuming a few mavericks like Smith bow out, the GOP can probably depend on folks like Pryor and Lieberman to give them the votes they need.

7. bell would be fine, but at 88 years of age, probably too old for some
One possibility is William Barr, who was AG for Bush I and is only 57 years old. He's a repub through and through, but I don't see where the Dems would fight his appointment.

Another possiblity would be a current or former member of the Senate, since Senators tend to challenge appointments of other Senators only in the rarest of circumstances. Not sure who it might be, however.

9. How about my picks?
How about Pat Robertson?
Ted Haggard?
Harriet Miers?
Negroponte?
Wolfowitz?
Dan Burton?
Mark Souder?
Rick Santorum?

On the other hand they could appoint Lam.

14. You forgot Tom DeLay. He certainly knows something about the
legal system. Hopefully soon, he'll know more.

10. My favorite Republican candidates for AG
The "Republican" part makes it hard, but:

1. Grant Woods - former Arizona AG
2. Any of the 8 US Attorneys who got fired

13. Since everyone who has gone to work for this admininstration has
either left under a cloud, or is going to jail, I don't know if they can find anyone. GWB and Cheney have shredded more careers than a blitzhacker.
