This is a long road from "the Best and the Brightest" -
that were enlisted by JFK - to the friends and cronies of Bush, whose sole suitability to "serve at his pleasure" (has anyone else ever used this description?) is to be loyal. Rumsfeld, Brown, Argyros, Miers, Gonzales.. the list goes on. A sad march of incompetent individuals who could not care about understanding their fields, of whom Bush could not care about competency, as long as they were loyal.

1. Of course many of the so-called "Best and Brightest" Bundy, McNamara, Rusk
also led us into the disaster known as Vietnam. David Halberstam's book "The Best and the Brightest" is a revelation on how such a strong, educated and dedicated bunch got it wrong in regards to Vietnam.

3. Bill Maher expressed it better yesterday on CNN
OK, we had our experiment. We elected a dumb president and it did not work.
