Schmidt says Walter Reed claims "overblown"

Rep. Jean Schmidt wrote in her weekly column sent out to reporters on Monday that after hearing about the "deplorable living conditions" at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center from a Feb. 18 story in The Washngton Post, she decided to take "several hours" to travel to the hospital in Washington, D.C., to see the situation "first hand."

So what did our investigative congresswoman discover, only a month after the story broke?

"I toured all four outpatient housing facilities, and was pleasantly surprised to find that three of the buildings contained clean living spaces, updated television and computer access, and full access to cooking units or cafeterias," Schmidt wrote.

That's not all she found.

Schmidt: "I also toured Building 18, which is the focus of the Washington Post's story. This building, which stood empty for years and is slated for demolition, was put back into use for housing purposes due to the conflict in Iraq and Afghanistan . While I believe that this building is beneath the standard of what is acceptable, I think it is wrong to suggest that mold found behind an air conditioner somehow is an excuse to say that all of our veterans are receiving substandard medical care. It is important to remember that the building in question is an apartment building, not a medical facility. Further the building was scheduled to be torn down within two years.

5. You can thank Blackwell's elections for that one. If you followed discussions on ER & D,
you might recall that "high humidity" caused a delay in retreving votes from Ms Schmidt's county. The good news is we hnow have Jennifer Brunner overseeing our elections. Watch Ohio turn BRIGHT blue with coming elections. :)

2. I would gather that she did about as much research into the conditions at W.Reed
as she did in researching the background of Murtha ...

4. Oh Jean - you are doing a
fantastic job replacing Katherine Harris for the Bat Shit Crazy category. Keep up the good work! We all need to see that there are individuals such as you who just don't have a clue.

Schmidt and vomit

According to the Politico's Shenanigans Blog, the two had a run-in this week:
Meanwhile, today on the Hill, Rep. Jean Schmidt (R-Ohio) was seen making a spectacle of herself when the unlucky lawmaker slipped and fell in what we’re told was vomit, in a bathroom in Cannon. (Some nice female dealing with the repercussions of Jason Roe’s going away party by chance?) “She made THE biggest scene in the hallway,” says a staffer who escaped the, um, regurgitation. “It’s literally all down her back.”
So did this REALLY happen? Sort of. Here's what Schmidt chief of staff Barry Bennett had to say, via e-mail:
"Someone did get sick outside her office next to the womens bathroom and she did slip and fall. That part is true. She went home and changed. It was not as dramatic or disgusting as the blog reported."

11. So to translate: asshole jean thinks it's okay to house the wounded
in condemned buildings.

Just trying to get her bizarre way of thinking straight.

12. Let me know when she volunteers to live there for a full month.
Eating the same room, using the same bathrooms, getting her medical care there, and not allowed to leave.

THEN I might think she has done a real inspection.

13. I don't know if anyone noticed.
I was forced to watch faux 'news' while eating in a restaurant. They kept showing one short loop of a ceiling in Bldg. 18 which had a little peeling paint over a shower. They never showed anything else, just the one small section of ceiling. Jean Schikklegruber is doing bushie bidding by playing this down so sheeple will easily dismiss as "overblown".
