Hillary Speaks Out On "1984" Video
By Greg Sargent | bio
So Hillary Clinton has finally spoken out about the 1984-style ad slamming her and boosting Barack Obama that's been all over the internet in recent days. Here's Hillary in an interview that was just posted on New York 1 News' Web site:

“I haven't seen it but I’m pleased that it seems to be taking attention away from what used to be on YouTube and getting a lot of hits, namely me singing ‘The Star Spangled Banner.’ Everybody in the world now knows I can't carry a tune,” said Clinton. “I thank heavens for small favors and the attention has shifted, and now maybe people won't have to tune in and hear me screeching about ‘The Star Spangled Banner.’”

1. She is saying nothing.
She's playing right into the message of the ad.

3. I disagree with that assessment. I think she was pointing out that
while many things on YouTube are factual, some are just plain BS. I think she did a good job handling this, as did Barrack.

20. Does not matter what she would have said.
Some people will find fault with no matter what comes out of her mouth. They just won't admit it. After reading this board for a long time I can guess the response of certain people witout even reading what they have written.

2. LOVE IT!
What a great response.

And I don't believe for a second Obama was behind that 1984 style video. I know the athlete was wearing an Obama shirt, but, really, anyone could get one of those, right?

I think the media and the Republicans are trying to turn our primary uglier than it needs to be so when it comes time for the general election, our guy (or gal) will be so torn apart and we'll be so divided, we can't unite to win.

I am not backing Hillary, but I think she often gets a raw deal and I think the way she handled this was awesome.

7. I wouldnt even know about the ad if not for Pro-Hillary DUers & now Hillary herself.
I am not saying the OP of this thread is a Hillary supporter, BTW.

What I am saying is that my first contact with the ad was a pro-Hillary DUer posting it on DU, demanding an apology-this was a week ago.

My other contact with the ad is now Hillary herself bringing it to my attention- I'm suprised she even has time to note such small things- like an internet video or two.

9. Well, it's been all over the MSM for the past couple of days
which is why I think people are talking about it now. Obama responded to a question about it last night on Larry King. Keith Olbermann did a segment about it last night. And there have been at least a dozen threads about it. So maybe you're only paying attention to Hillary and her supporters? idk.

12. My first contact with the ad was a DU thread last week, started by a Hillary supporter.
Edited on Tue Mar-20-07 06:40 PM by Dr Fate
I admit that I stopped paying attention to cable news a couple of years ago- I'll tune in every blue moon to catch Dean or kerry, etc.-but I had no doubt at the time that the media would pick up this "story" in an effort to divide DEMS- they are just that predictable.

I get all of my news from the internet- I prefer the written word rather than to watch it on TV...

Yes-If it was on TV last night, then it makes sense that Hillary would be aware of it at this point.

15. Maybe they had to wait to see if it was "controversial" to enough people.
Edited on Tue Mar-20-07 06:51 PM by Dr Fate
And maybe since plenty of Hillary supporters were going around claiming it was offensive for the past 2 weeks- and demanding apologies from Obama-that was the "controversy" the media needed, so they finally ran with it.

19. I really don't think her supporters were the ones talking about it enough to make it an issue
You may have seen a thread or two about it, but I don't recall a big deal being made over it until yesterday. I saw it on a website a couple of weeks ago, but I really don't think that the attention is related to Hillary supporters.

21. The media found out about it from someone. Surely it was not through an investigation.
More likey, someone emailed it to the right people- or they stumbled upon it on a message board.

23. Yeah
but I'm guessing they found out about it from someone who liked the add - I don't think Hillary's supporters would want to be promoting it to the MSM.

28. What if someone was desperate for a "Hitler Ad" ala Moveon.org?
Edited on Tue Mar-20-07 07:24 PM by Dr Fate
You would think that Republicans would have not wanted people to see that ad either- yet they and an "unwitting" media were the ones who made more people more aware of it than the originators ever did...

They might have thought it could start a "Obama has gone negative" or "Obama's supporters are out of hand- he cant control them" meme.

Just b/c it didnt work out doesnt mean my theory is not valid- the "Obama should apologize for Geffen's negative remarks" meme didnt work either- yet we know of Geffen's remarks mainly b/c team Hillary told us about them.

30. True
obviously, I don't know who sent it to the media, I just doubt it was the Clinton people.

Also, re: the Geffen remarks - I think the Clinton campaign made a big mistake there, but they probably have since reazlied how it backfired.

17. Assuming Hillary just found out about it today or last night, the response was fine.
But knowing that Hillary supporters have been shopping it around on various message boards for the past week or so, I don't view her response in that vacuum.

18. She shouldn't make an issue out of it because it's not an issue.
It's just a fun commercial for Obama, who is the best candidate (except perhaps for Richardson).

It's well done and makes a good analogy.

Love her or hate her, there aren't many stronger people out there than her.

31. Funny- I found out about both Geffen AND the 1984 ad from Team Hillary.
My first knowledge of the "Obama should apologize for what Geffen said" was from an article where Team Hillary was demanding Obama apologize.

My first contact with "Obama should apologize for 1984" was from Hillary supporters on DU.

Am I the only one who sees a glaring similarity in both events? In both cases, Hillary supporters were informing us about it more than the originators were doing- you might even argue that we would have not known about either if not for them.

26. Hillary handles herself well. That 1984 video had to be put out by the Right Wing
to create divisiveness among Democrats. Karl Rove probably. I think he posts here, too, with a bunch of aliases.
