If Chertoff nominated to replace Gonzo, whats the process ?

Chertoff already has been confirmed by the Senate (DHS), does that mean the process would be different, than say a Joe blow, who would go thru the whole process?

First, the nomination is sent to the Judiciary Committee, chair by Patrick Leahy. Leahy can decide whether to bring the nomination to a vote, hold debates first, or table the nomination indefinitely.

I'm thinking that Leahy would probably bury Chertoff's nomination and tell Bush to try nominating someone who isn't a Nazi.
