Would the Dems prevail in a contempt of Congress vote?

There may be those that know more about this process than I do but last night I heard that if the WH ignores subpoenas then it would be up to congress to vote on a contempt of congress resolution (simple majority needed) which (if passed) would then be referred to the USA for the DC district.

Do both houses need to pass a contempt of congress resolution? It seems unlikely to me that the Dems could actually muster enough votes in the Senate to pass such a resolution.

prevail, our democratic representatives OWE their constituents "a try."

Otherwise, Dear Leader and the backwash that is known as 30% of our Country will RULE.

They must take a stand without worrying about the outcome, win or lose, their re-election may depend on it. I know that I will be paying attention and WANT our Representatives to stop triangulating long enough to find their SPINES. ;)

it doesn't require both houses. Either house can, by simple majority vote, present a Contempt of Congress charge.

a "Red State" Dem Senator (or two) would never vote to hold the WH in contempt.

4. EVERYBODY needs to call/write/email their reps, regardless of party

and DEMAND that Congress holds the line for oversight on this one! Either we have 3 separate branches or we have an Imperial Executive and NOW is the time to prove which it is!

NO ONE IS ABOVE THE LAW. NO ONE.

Testimony UNDER OATH and transcripts or just go home and stop pretending! If the WH balks for a second, it is contempt and HAS to be dealt with as such.

However, I'm starting to think that it needs to come from the ground up at this point. i believe that US citizens can impeach with a majority. Or maybe it's just to sponsor an amendment.

I wish I knew why Bush has so much control over the Republican congressmen. He's amoral.

We need to stop accepting "we dont have the votes" as an excuse.

I want a head count of who is on my side on these issues, whether some DLC guy tells us we cant win or otherwise.

7. If it's over the fallout from Attorney-Gate, I'll bet you that a few Republicans will vote with us.

Even the Republicans in Congress are getting tired of having their authority usurped by the President. On top of that, over and over, President Bush's actions are coming back to bite them in the ass - they lost their majority, several of them were forced out of office, Cunningham and Ney are in prison, and the entire party smells like a skunk. Every time Bush fucks up, they take heat. Of course, the neo-cons and fundies in the party are going to vote to support the President even if he eats a baby live on CNN in front of the Capitol, but more moderate Republicans like Sununu are likely to be the ones to throw Bush, Rove and Gonzales under the bus to save what's left of their own power.
