1. This will be a real test; I fear this is going to go down the memory hole.
This is actually huge. It is illegal, flat out illegal, end of discussion. If this isn't picked up by the "mainstream" media, we'll know who else is in the control room with Sosobad O'Brian and Cutie Couric. We've got a smoking gun here, and it should be all over the news already. Instead, I'm envisioning a day discussing more baby polar bears and lost children.

6. Since By Law
the government must save all email and produce it when required, why would he of all people want a record kept of his writings?

4. Im sorry, but I believe it is illegal
They are sending OFFICIAL GOVERNMENT COMMUNICATIONS on WH letterhead, off-network, secretly, ostensibly to avoid detection. These are public records, and protected by statute.

Imagine how your employer would feel if you were using their letterhead, representing yourself as an official, and sending out, say, KKK invitations over your own e-mail system? It is indeed illegal on many levels.

Welcome to DU, btw.

5. Welcome to DU, UH, and it is illegal to use unsecured, non government communication venues for
official communications. You are right that it doesn't look good, as is the case with most illegal activities.:hi: MKJ

8. I remember Bush saying in an interview in 2001 that no one
would be using email in the White House. But all I could find on Lexis Nexis was this article
a NYT article from March 17, 2001, quotng Bush's last email to friends (dated Jan. 17, 2001) as follows:

"My lawyers tell me that all correspondence by e-mail is subject to open record
requests...Since I do not want my private conversations looked at by those out to embarrass,
the only course of action is not to correspond in cyberspace. This saddens me. I have enjoyed
conversing with each of you."

But these private email accounts make me wonder if this was a ruse that would allow them to question the authenticity of anything that came to light and, at the same time, keep them out of the public record.
