Rove's plan to keep Dems to permanent minor party status
relies on multiple, interconnected activities including a paramount need of a compliant DoJ. With Gonzales (and Ashcroft before him) the corruption that was the engine of the K Street project was safe. The wining, dining and funding of Repub Reps and Senators would pay dividends in a variety of ways including importantly the complete abandonment by Congress of its oversight responsibilities. The concentration of media outlets protected by a compliant Congress insured the taming of investigative reporting by the corporate media and the rise of propaganda channels like faux which supplied bogus facts for RW true believers to cling to in spite of the truths they could see with their own eyes.Add to these considerations the creation of a permanent war footing to frighten the populace with scare stories and clothe the boy emperor with a cloak of incontestability. I am certain there are additional examples of Karl's efforts to subvert American democratic values. The picture that emerges is one of an attempt to create a fascist state where the natural watchdogs of prosecutors, legislatures and reporters are muzzled; corporate interests are protected, voting rights are violated and America's soul is lost.

1. Don't forget the packing of federal courts with 'Bushies'. You could probably
add the resistance of the GOP to stopping the flood of H1B vistas, raising minimum wage, and allowing tax breaks for corporations to export the better jobs from this country as a means of controlling the masses and driving the expectations lower.

5. The 1st step was to buy control of all available broadcast media in the 80s and 90s.
That first step helped gain protection for every step that followed, including gaining control of the election process and its votecount.

7.  Consider thar faux using a W relative called Florida for him
in 2000 and the SC said that the networks' call of the election created a property right in Bush that a full recount of votes might deprive him of. So shut down the recount and the media cloaked the legal outrage with respectability.
All of us should keep in mind that people who have stolen 2 presidential elections while the whole world was watching are capable of just about anything.

8. They could do it because their cronies own most of the US's broadcast media.

19. I think an initial step for that was to discredit other information sources
Although I did not totally get the signifigance at the time, I remember when people (initially on the right) began to spread the meme that the media is too liberal and that colleges were too liberal and that anyone past the age of 20 who is still liberal is a fool.

In other words, they get the general public to distrust education, the media, and logic/intelligence in general in order to make it easier for the networks to take over with made up factoids and pre-processed bullshit.

6. Too bad for Rove and Grover Norquist
Turns out they weren't as smart as they thought they were, and people in general are not as dumb as they had counted on.

9. Are we having fun yet?
How many of us were put down because we called them crooks an nazis?

Looks like it was pretty much true, except the truth was much worse that even we thought.

11. It has been an amazing plan, but evil. So far it has worked.
And we still don't know the total extent of the infrastructure they
have put in place.
