As you know, for every isolated example put forth by the right that the progressive movement is held hostage by an extremist fringe, there's the unsaid fact that, at the heart of the conservative movement -
at the heart - is a very dark, very cruel sentiment that rarely sees the light of day in the media.
This is who they are. To wit: The following comes from a Free Republic
post citing the now-wrong Politico
report that Edwards was going to announce a suspension of his campaign:
misterrrob: "I will hold a good thought for his family but if that scumbag uses this down the line to bash conservatives it wouldn't surprise me."
pissant: "Thank God that we aren't living under Edwards socialized medicine plan. She has a great chance for recovery. Godspeed."
RushCrush: "On a snarkier note, I will certainly miss future opportunities to lambast the esteemed candidate."
Liberty Valance: "Does anyone think Hillary would drop out if Bill had another heart attack?"
John D: "Does anybody think either of the clintons would have done the same?"
Holicheese: "I am surprised he didn't blame this on Bush and his making stem cell research illegal!!!!
(I know he didn't make it illegal but that is what moonbats say!)"
Howlin: "This thing will be over the second week of February, 2008."
jocko12: "No Loss."
NCSteve: "Sympathy for Mrs. Edwards is warranted, but The Silky Pony is such a sleazeball, cynicism is awfully hard to avoid.
Edwards gets no credit for this move other than political common sense."
AxelPaulsenJr: "I can read the polls, so can Edwards."
Tax-chick: "My first thought after 'Why has this information come out now, in this way ... ' was ' ... because Edwards arranged it for some perceived political advantage.
It's a sad commentary on him and us, really. Him for being like that, and us for being dragged down by it."
ArmstedFragg: "Oh Lord, he's doing the 'sympathy vote' routine. He'll be channeling any moment now."
Rb ver. 2.0: "Now he can milk it for the sympathy vote."
stentorian conservative: "Well in that case I consider him an even bigger A$$ than before. Very sad to use this to gain publicity."
halfright: "He just got 3 million dollars worth of free campaign advertising"
Howlin: "I am frankly stunned at this.
I was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt, but now I'm fast moving into the 'he's using this for his own benefit' column.
He will drop like a rock in the polls."
OESY: "At last, the persistence of a tenacious trial lawyer shows through. Why would he let a little health problem ruin his whole day?"
Howlin: "Oh, she looks like the woman behind the throne.
Leaving the graveness of her illness aside, we're going to be treated to MONTHS of how wonderful John is for Elizabeth."
Andy'smom: "After the initial statement, it was one big campaign commercial."
justshutupandtakeit: "Damn that is too bad. What doctor would treat anyone associated with this parasite though"
WhistlingPastTheGraveyard: "There was no reason to hold a major press conference to announce the campaign will continue. It was a sick, sick publicity stunt by a truly awful guy."
stentorian conservative: ". . . and that is precisely why I think his numbers will plummet. This was a bottom-o-the-barrell BS attempt at publicity. Who's talked about him since the Coulter debacle?"
Fantasywriter: "Well, considering that John Edwards hired those two virulently anti-Catholic bloggers, maybe it isn't odd his wife would be a proud and very open member of Democratic Underground. It surprised me, though, because he wants to be a national contender. If you have ever witnessed firsthand the degree of truly deranged hatred, vileness, fury, abject ignorance and all around puerility on DU, perhaps you would find it just a shade surprising too."
xsmommy "he tended towards chubby and the pic i saw had her looking somewhat gaunt, i tend to think its the cancer."
Said the first poster, BibChr, "Please, please, please refrain from saying asinine things that justify every caricature of conservatives." Sorry, BibChr, but your warning went unheeded. So hard, it is, to control rabid animals.
