The local seniors, Rachel Johnston of Van Buren Road, Harding, and Nora Pyenson of Treadwell Avenue, Madison, went to the Ivy League university for a four-day opportunity to replicate the system of impeachment and the roles of the Senate, House of Representatives and the Supreme Court.
Johnston, a member of the student council at Madison High School, and her partner, Pyenson were presented with “Awards of Excellence” at the model congress.
Harvard Model Congress is the oldest and largest congressional simulation conference in the world, providing about 1,500 delegates from across the U.S. and abroad with an opportunity to experience American government firsthand.
At the model congress, students tackle the most pressing and important issues facing the nation as they assume roles in each of the three branches of the U.S. government and beyond.
Johnston and Pyenson won one of only three excellence awards, given out to the best of the 28, two-person Supreme Court Attorney teams.
