Answer to "support the troops"
Hello, I was recently called a "godless liberal" for the first time on my website and it really ticked me off. Actually at first I felt kind of proud. But anyway; the person accused me of not supporting the troops, and that is what ticked me off. Ever since, I have really been thinking about how the republicans keep throwing the "support the troops" line in our faces and I think I have come up with a solution. How about rather than supporting the troops, we focus on "saving" the troops; it seems like they would rather be saved from King George than given the money so he can keep letting them die. Just a thought.

2. If Repubs were REALLY interested in supporting the troops...
They would make sure they have proper body armour, proper vehicle armour, proper food and water, and they wouldn't be dependent on care packages from home to provide silly string used to detect bomb trip wires.

...and those people stop sending me stuff.

I also said to a freeper coworker, "if you want to talk to me about the war, join the fucking army or DO something and I'll talk to you. Otherwise, shut the fuck up!"

For support the troops, a good line is "how many CARE packages have you sent to Iraq?" (my wife sent a few to nephews who are no longer there. I helped bake the cookies and pick out the CDs.)

Works like a charm.

p.s. wear the godless liberal label proudly!

4. Your suggestion does help with the problem that "support" implies
approval of the war, so I have trouble saying that and the minute the oppo picks up on any un-certainty they interpret that as an indication that you know you're wrong.

6. Right now i'm listening to the tony snow today show. He says money for the troops
over and over. I was going to post about it. It is money for bush. It is not money for the troops, and we have to start framing it that way. He says the money for the troops will run out in a month. I say great! bring them home. How about NO spending bill. period. cut it off. just make it stop.

8. The money never goes for what the troops need. it goes into republicans pockets.
This is a fake "support the troops'. it is a lie. it is a farce. It is bullshit. And people still feel guilty about opposing the war?

9. The best response is "Support the troops -- bring them home!"
And take care of wounded soldiers when they come home. That's something the chickenhawks have really failed to do.

13. Something I wrote for a different venue:
The third-best way to support the troops is to make sure their families are taken care-of while they are away serving our national needs
The second-best way to support the troops is to fully fund veterans’ benefits to take care of them after they get back.
The best way to support the troops is to not use them unless really needed.
