House approves end date for Iraq war

By Richard Cowan

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. House of Representatives on Friday defied President George W. Bush, voting to impose a September 1, 2008, deadline for withdrawing all American combat troops from Iraq.

In a mostly partisan 218-212 vote, House Democrats succeeded in attaching the deadline to legislation authorizing more than $124 billion in emergency funds, mostly for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan this year.

The vote was a significant victory for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (news, bio, voting record) of California and her fellow Democrats who took control of Congress in last November's elections on a pledge to end the increasingly unpopular war in Iraq.

"We're going to make a difference with this bill. We're going to bring those troops home," said Rep. John Murtha (news, bio, voting record), his voice cracking with emotion. The Pennsylvania Democrat has led the charge since November 2005 for withdrawing U.S. troops from Iraq.

2. Bring them home today!
If something is wrong, and we all know this war is wrong, how can waiting a year and a half to bring them home be right?

If this becomes reality (probably won't) our kids will be in harms way for another 18 months so conservatives don't have to say they were wrong about their lying leader.

7. Yes.
And we have to let Americans die to save their filthy amour-propre.

Someone should place pictures of the day's dead on their desks every single day. Today you killed.... to prop up George W. Bush.
