The public will not tolerate defectors indefinitely and the GOP's failure to yield in the wake of the prevailing election results has handed Democrats a lethal weapon. Without enough real power to govern, freshly minted officials are sharpening their claws on politics.

The debate should turn to policy, because continued defiance is untenable. When corporate America comes to heel, progressives must be prepared with remedial prescriptions. I've got my plan ... and personally, dread the presentation.

But now is the time. The sacrifice of others will not be in vain if we carry on their best intentions.
