I Have Heard * As Well As Some Talking Heads Say This Appropriations Bill Passed In The House......

today contained a lot of pork spending. They refer to peanuts and shrimp - but they don't comment on the New Orleans relief and children's health care money.

I was wondering if anybody has a list of all the projects that were included in today's bill. I'm sure there is "No Bridge To Nowhere" funding in this bill. I heard one Dem say that much of what was included were projects that the Repug controlled Congress left on the table before the Nov '06 election. He turned it around on the interviewer on the cable news network I was listening to.

Anyway - I really would like to get a look at the list of projects included in this bill - if anybody has it.

but it also had VA money as well. I kept hearing the 'pork' thing too, but it seemed to be mostly the kind of spending (sans war of course) that we are supposed to be doing. But as we all know, bridges built to nowhere are noble projects, taking care of kids and vets is 'useless pork'.

3. Exactly My Thoughts - So Why Aren't More Dems Defending That Spending?.....

I don't understand why they sit back and let the Repugs and the RW Talking Heads and the * apologists walk all over them. Now maybe Nancy Pelosi had to give some to get some votes - but in the big scheme of things - I believe most of the projects that I heard about seemed legitimate.

But all I keep hearing from the other side is 'peanuts' and 'shrimp'.

Why do we keep letting them walk all over us?

But no one is walking over us. And maybe the Dems don't say something regarding this is it dosen't need an answer.

Alot of good pork is in this bill such as money for Walter Reed and so forth.

6. I Hope You Didn't Misunderstand Me - I'm Not Being Critical Of The Dems.....

for including these projects in this appropriations bill. I too believe that what they funded is 'good pork'. If it is - we should defend it as such - not let the MSM and * apologists insinuate that it is 'bad pork'.

Seems to me it would be hard for any of my Repug friends to not go along with additional aid for New Orleans; or money for Walter Reed and our returning wounded soldiers; or for children that are in need of health care; or farmers or fishermen that were devastated by the weather and need some help to continue to put food on our tables and to buck up our economy.

I don't know what MSM outlets you are listening to - but the ones that I've listened to - let the RW talking heads spout out about the 'tax and spend Dems'. Hell * himself in his 'political theatre' response today - commented on the pork - insinuating it was 'bad pork'.

For 6 years now - the Repug Congress and *Co have been squandering our money like it was going out of style. When we were critical about the 'Bridge To Nowhere' they thumbed their noses up to us and went ahead anyway. I believe just the other day I read where the money is being used for this bridge. Though they tried to make it look like it wouldn't be.

This appropriations bill will not bankrupt this country like *Co is making it out to be. What will bankrupt this country - both morally and economically is the continuation of this war. What are we up to already in 'war' spending? A trillion? more before its over?

7. Watching CSPAN during vote they listed some of these:

Peanut storage, spinach farmers, Katrina relief, Vet Benefits, National Security, etc.

It appeared to me the "pork" was related to helping groups trying to deal w/the aftermath of DISASTERS.

If this is pork, we are all in trouble. Of course, this isn't going to help the corporate entities, so it definitely is "pork" to "them".

The Iraq War got $96 Billion. Most will go to "contractors" of one sort or another.
The pork projects got between 7-3 Billion each.

"The $124 billion emergency war bill the committee approved on Friday contains a wide range of funding for health care programs in the Defense Department and Veterans Affairs departments. Funding for DOD health care programs covered by the bill includes:"

$450 million for post-traumatic stress disorder/counseling.
$450 million for traumatic brain injury care and research.
$730 million to prevent health care fee increases for U.S. troops.
$20 million to address the problems at Walter Reed.
$14.8 million for burn care.
The bill increased funding for the VA's health care programs by $1.7 billion, including:


$550 million to address the maintenance backlog at VA health care facilities to prevent situations similar to those at Walter Reed.
$250 million for medical administration.
$229 million for treatment of a increased pool of veterans.
$100 million to allow the VA to contract with private mental health care providers.
$62 million to speed claims processing for returning veterans.

"This is the extra money that the Dems "slipped into this bill for their pet spending projects", according to President Bush. If he vetoes this bill, this should be hung around his neck for the rest of his life."
