Facing a New Battle, Mrs. Edwards Set Campaign’s Fate
http://www.nytimes.com/2007/03/25/us/politics/25edwards.html?hp

<snip>

In terms of being mindful of their young children, Emma Claire, 8, and Jack, 6, Mr. Edwards said, “We both recognize that there is a tension in our desire to be the best possible parents we can be for our kids — and remember this is in the context of parents who lost a child — and our desire to serve our country.”

He added, “We will have to be sensitive to the needs of our children,” and said their youngest children would be a constant presence on the campaign trail. Both Mr. and Mrs. Edwards said they felt that their children would learn by their example. And they said they were confident their decision to run was the right one, even if some voters believe the exact opposite to be true.

“I think the best thing you can give your children is wings,” Mrs. Edwards said, to teach them to “stand by themselves in a stiff wind.”

Mr. Edwards said he could not anticipate a situation in which he would ever regret running for the presidency or serving, even if his wife’s illness brought her an early death. “Honestly I don’t,” he said.

“He shouldn’t,” Mrs. Edwards interjected.

3. This confirms why they will be amazing leaders of this country!
Their children can have tutors that travel w/them. This would be an amazing experience for kids.

No one seems to mind when celebrities have their children travel w/them all around the world while the parents perform.

What's the difference?

5. If the children end up, God forbid, in a one parent White House
Who would take care of them? I'm sure the Edwards have thought of this, but I wonder. The Presidency is a 24/7 job.

7. My dad died of "incurable" cancer in October.
It is terminal. I hope she lives a full life for many, many years.

8. Your blind hatred of the Edwards has no decency bounds, does it?
You can't give it a rest even when a woman is fighting for her life?

10. Really?
How many Edwards-bashing threads have you started? Wasn't there just a thread last week about (paraphrasing) "Who is the one candidate you couldn't vote for under any circumstances?"

11. This goes beyond politics. Has nothing to do with politics.
We are talking about a woman's life and thier family, and it's their business.

I wish them all the best.

12. Good. I hope you do.
And Edwards has both the wherewithal and emotional capability to take care of his children should something happen to Elizabeth while he is President. And it would be the same in the White House or not in the White House, so it's a non issue.
