Bush Says He Won't Veto The Repeal of Patriot Act Provision on U.S. Attorneys
"House votes to strip U.S. Attorney provision.By a 329-78 vote, the House today followed the Senate in passing legislation that repeals a Patriot Act provision “that grants the Attorney General the authority to make indefinite interim appointments of U.S. Attorneys, who can then serve indefinitely without Senate confirmation.”

and last tuesday the senate voted to repeal it 94-2

1. No sh*t! First of all, they had enough votes to over-ride his veto!
And for the first time in office, he's actually accepted good advise!

2. Actually it is a surprise
Admin officials and Sen. Kyl had argued that this is a fundamental protection of the inherent power of the Executive branch. (When in fact Congress is empowered to decide how this procedure will work for "lesser officials" such as US Attorneys and therefore, was both empowered to enable the appointments without confirmation as a result of having been tricked into passing a law containing that language, and to repeal that language.) So, a veto was to have been completely expected.

Bush really won't veto?

7. What would be the point of a veto? They already passed it with
enough votes to override....That's like a child stamping his toes in a temper tantrum (which, of course none of us would put past Bush*)... But, really, what would be the point. He can't prevail.

5. It'll probably take a major Consitiutional change to be able to veto it
So, what a courageous statement.

So, bravo, Mr. Bush, way to send a message.

That's meaningless.
