Gonzales isn't worried. He won't go down without a fight. An all-out congressional showdown on executive priviledge will be played out. Why? Dirt. Way too much dirt, in fact. He knows all of Bush's skeletons, and most likely all of Cheney's, too.

If they don't do everything in their power to protect him, the administration risks going down in flames. SO, what can they offer him if it becomes necessary for him to resign? Off hand, I would say nothing less than a lifetime appointment to the Supreme Court, or a stack of cash that would fill a dump truck! The latter is more likely (surely they can let go of some of those pallets of hundred dollar bills missing from Iraq).

This is going to be fun to watch. Gonzales is already backpedalling, trying to cover his lies that led him to this point. The hubris with which he has been accustomed has been abandoned, and he is now in full damage control mode. George "The fuck-up" Bush has to be protected at all costs.
