3. Shouldn't he be staying home with his family, like KKKatie says Elizabeth Edwards should?
Even though, KKKatie Couric kept working while HER husband died of cancer, of course.

22. Snow is a human being
At this point, what he does for a living is pretty irrelevant. And unless you want to be mistaken for a Freeper, you should try showing a little humanity.

We're better than they are.

2. I checked Wikipedia
and it doesn't list a wife or children.

It does state that his mother died of colon cancer when he was 17.

4. Someone with balls big enough to stand in front of America and lie like Tony Snow does...
must surely be capable of producing the massive quantities of sperm necessary to produce offspring.

8. I just checked "Answers.com"
And they state "In 1987, he married Jill Ellen Walker. They have a son and two daughters".

I wish peace and strength for all of them in this trying time.

9. Ian DB1 -That seems a little harsh to me. I don't care for his politics or

his role in those politics, but this kind of thing transcends all of that.

My limited experience is that people with liver cancer don't live very long.

5. Oh, this is absolutely terrible.
Illness certainly is the great leveler, isn't it?

I could be wrong - and I know he will have the very best care - but I don't think liver cancer is very hopeful.

Hopefully we will hear some good news about him today.

13. Actually, I had a friend whose child had liver cancer
and at the time the doctors were very worried because cancers grow quickly in children, whereas liver cancer was less serious in older persons because they grew more slowly. And, unlike many organs, the liver can regenerate itself, so if they can remove the part that is cancerous (which of course depends on a lot of things we don't know about in Snow's case) he may have an excellent prognosis.

Fortunately, my friend's child received all the latest treatments and is thriving today.

http://www.answers.com/topic/tony-snow

Snow was born in Berea, Kentucky, and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio. His father, Jim, taught social studies and was an assistant principal at Princeton High School in suburban Cincinnati, where his son graduated. His mother was an inner-city nurse who died of colon cancer in 1973 when Tony was 17 years old. After graduating from Princeton High School in Sharonville, Ohio, Snow obtained his Bachelor of Arts in philosophy from Davidson College in 1977. He taught physics and geography in Kenya, and was a substitute teacher in Cincinnati, teaching everything from calculus to art. He also worked as an advocate for the mentally ill and developmentally disabled in North Carolina.

He is an avid musician. He plays the flute, saxophone and guitar, and belongs to a cover band, Beats Workin', which features fellow Washington-area professionals. Beats Workin' has played publicly with a number of bona fide rock stars, including Snow's friends Skunk Baxter (The Doobie Brothers, Steely Dan) and Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull. He was featured on an episode of VH1 Classic's "Rock And Roll Fantasy Camp."

In 1987, he married Jill Ellen Walker. They have a son and two daughters as well as several pets, including three dogs, a cat and three guinea pigs. Snow and his family live in Virginia.

14. This is a death sentence.
My sister had breast cancer and after five years it had spread to her liver. She passed away a couple of months after being diagnosed. No one usually gets over that.

18. its definitely bad news, but we don't know enough to make such declarations
Snow does not have primary liver cancer, which is a most dire disease.

He has a secondary liver cancer -- another type of cancer spreading to his liver. It is my understanding that secondary liver cancer may be more responsive to treatment, depending on a variety of factors. Here is some information lifted from another post here on DU:

Primary liver cancer is difficult to treat. Surgical removal is the best option but these tumours are often too large and too extensive for surgery. Chemotherapy is occasionally used for inoperable tumours but any benefit is usually short lived. Unfortunately, survival rates for primary liver cancer are low.

"The treatment of secondary (metastatic) liver cancer is determined by the site of origin of the original (primary) tumour. It is important to realise that the tumour, even though it has spread to the liver, will still behave according to its origin. A leopard does not change its spots: breast cancer involving the liver behaves like breast cancer, not like primary liver cancer. Consequently the outlook can be rather better for patients with secondary, as opposed to primary, liver cancer.

Surgery is increasingly being used for patients with secondary liver cancer. This can sometimes involve removing a segment of liver. Alternatively, keyhole techniques can be used to apply extreme cold or heat to localised areas of the liver."
