Need a quick answer for a workplace discussion
Can the President simply fire the Vice President, or is something more elaborate required? Would it be a case of "I'd like your resignation on my desk by morning," or could the Prez just say "Don't let the door hit you in the ass" and leave it at that?

Sorry--this is probably really obvious, but I'm embarrassed to say that didn't know the answer off the top of my head.

3. He can't fire him, because he was elected, not appointed.
the american people (allegedly) put him in office, and he cannot be "fired' in the normal way.
certainly, he can be pressured to resign, but in this instance, I think you're mixing up the ventriloquist and the dummy.

:)

7. The Vice President is an elected official.
To get rid of him against his will, he would have to be Impeached or forced with political pressure to resign. He always has the option to resign as does the president.

11. This is actually where the term "at the pleasure of the President" applies
Resignation is the usual course of business.

16. Beyond asking for his resignation...
...no. But the President could make the VP superfluous because he really has no other formal duties or powers other than his role in the Senate.
